Take it to a jewelers store and ask a professional jeweler for his opinion.

I have to tell you, if you doubt that your significant other would give you a 'real' ring, I'd seriously re-think the whole marriage thing. If you even believe he is deceiving you with the ring, how can you trust him in any other way?

Also, you might want to think about your values system. If you truly love each other and the ring is worth $50, who cares? Do you want a life long partnership with this person, or are you just a greedy materialist who wants an expensive item to show off to people to 'prove' his love for you?

I am feeling sorry that u feel this way..first, there must b something about the ring that just doesn't sit right. Forget the age old "diamonds scratch glass" that's one of the first things CZ makers took care of. "glass scratches glass too!" First CZ's r man made. ..so they usually have a weight to them. u feel it on the finger. Diamonds r natural so only if it's a big rock then u can "feel' the weight. Look at the stone all around....CZ is going to pretty much look like a perfect stone at all angles..Check underneath, the manufacture will not waste time on securing the CZ stone in an expensive mounting...Cz's r bright & shiny a diamond will b brilliant &sparkle in "natural" sunlight. Check the "setting" of the ring. Does the mounting look of high quality??

If he bought u a gemstone they r easier to tell because the fake ones will look like plastic, pasty like. A gem stone u should b able to c throughout the beautiful deep colors of the gem.
There is NOTHING wrong w/feeling funny about a ring passed off as the real thingk. THAT'S the problem.....he may be trying to pull a fast one on you..that's whay u can't stand for.

Go to a jewelry store--any store, it doesn't have to be the one the ring came from.

Ask them to "tone" your ring--what they're going to do is put an instrument to your diamond and check to see if it's real. There are two distinct sounds--one for real diamonds and one for fake diamonds. Ask them to explain the process to you before you do it--get them to tone a real diamond ring they have in the store so you can hear for yourself what it sounds like. Get them to do two or three so that you can hear the consistency in the sounds. Then get them to tone yours. Having heard the real sound, you can better compare the sound that yours will make.

They should do it for free, but if they won't, it should be a very small fee to do it.

DON'T DON'T DON'T try scratching a mirror!!! You could end up hurting the setting that the stone is in. Besides, the problem with THAT is that yes, diamonds will scratch glass, BUT SO WILL CUBIC ZIRCONIA, because it's harder than glass too! That's NOT a reliable test, so don't rely on THAT!

Good luck; I'm sorry you feel that you have to ask this question!

I would take your ring to a reputable jewelry store and have it appraised. This is not only important for ensuring that your ring is genuine, but also for insurance purposes. You will need this in case something should ever happen to your ring as far as having it replaced by your home insurance. If you have not done so already, I would add it to your existing home owners policy.

Go to any jeweler and get it appraised, they will gladly look at it and let you know what the grade of the diamond is and what kind of gold it is set in. I'm not going to ask you why you are concerned, but if you can't talk to your fiance, and already have doubts and mistrust, you might want to think about whether you should be planning to marry this man. Just food for thought...

You really shouldnt look at it as if it were real, but rather as the meanin gbehind it. If you worry now about material things you will have a lifetime of woes. yeah- a diamond would be nice, but not every man can afford one, and some choose to get a CZ at first and then surprise thier wives with real diamonds later.

If you really need to have it appraised, go ahead and bring it to a reputable jeweler... that way you will know what it is

What you mean by real?

Are you asking if it is a real expression of your guys feelings by wanting you to have it in expressing his love for you and wanting the two of you to be joined as man and wife?

I certainly hope for his sake, the answer to that question is yes, but if not, why not do the right thing and return it to him now and just explain that you are a gold digger, and there just wasn't enough gold in it for you. Might as well hurt him now as later.

I know this one will not get a best answer, but that is not why I took the time to answer.

Take it up to a jeweler...or find out where it came form and go there...oh and why is this so important to you? Are you only engaged for the rock? If you truly love the person it could be plastic and you shouldnt care...
