I plan to go on holiday this winter to either Tunisia or Egypt with my girlfriend. However she is Russian and because of studies i'm in UK and she's in Russia. Is it possible to book a package holiday in UK for the both of us, even though she would have to get a seperate flight from Moscow, whereas i would fly from UK? Also are their visa restrictions in place? Can we get visas there or would she need one from the consulate in Moscow?

Hi just got back from Tunisia on Wednesday, fab holiday, went independantly with expedia who match flights with hotels for as many nights as you want.I think this would be your best option as package holiday companies in UK can only take EU passport holders. You can bookk your friends flight with expedia here so she can travel from Moscow to Tunis. At Tunis airport take a taxi to your resort it will not cost more than £15.You dont need a visa, visit Tunisia Embassy website in London for Russian citizens.Have been to Egypt aswell would recomend Dahab near Taba on the Sinai peninsula, you can pay for your visa at airport £10.
Have a great time

I have been to both countries and to be honest Egypt is the better choice. Tunisia has a lot to offer during summer, since its tourism industry blossoms during June-september, it is all about the sun and the beach. During winter and autumn months, there isn't much to do there, it is almost dead.

Egypt on the other hand is has a lot more to offer 365 days a year. Sharm el sheikh is the most amazing resort, read sea so you can still enjoy the warm tempreature and swim. Great night life, makes Ibiza look small. I would also recommend a Nile Cruise, a breath-taking experience, very romantic and you get to see the monuments of ancient egypt.

It would be cheaper if you take seperate flights to your destination, perhaps meet in Cairo and then take a flight to your destination of choice. You can get your visa from any bank in any airport in Egypt for $15. There are no visa restriction, Sharm is full of Russians and Italians, so do not worry about her going alone.

Enjoy your vacation

To see if your girlfriend can go on a package holiday with you (but start from Moscow instead of the UK) you will have to check with a travel agent. Some allow it and some don't, so it's best to shop around.

If you tell me which part of Tunisia you are looking to visit, I can give you informations on some fun things to do while visiting.

Nationals of Russia do not require visas if going on a package holiday.

Nationals of Britian can stay up to 4 months without a visa, but require visas for longer stays.

To apply for a visa you will need:
(a) Valid passport. (b) Photocopy of first 5 pages of passport. (c) 3 application forms completed in black ink and capital letters. (d) 2 passport-size photos. (e) Fee (payable by postal order or cash; cheques are not accepted). (f) Registered, stamped, self-addressed envelope for postal application.
