Did he finance it or just pay for it straight up? For instance, did he get a zales card and pay it off through a credit card or did he have all the money to pay for it at once?

Mine was financed. Of course, if you can afford to, paying for it out right is smarter (no payments, no interest) but $1500 is a good chunk of money to many people.

My husband didn't have a lot of money and I didn't want to start out in debt. He let me pick one out that he could afford. It's a half carot diamond and I still love it today. After 33 yrs. of marriage. Sometimes going into debt is necessary, but I certainly don't think buying an engagement ring is reason to go into debt.

My husband paid for my bridal set by means of a credit card. It was priced around $4000..

We couldn't afford a ring. So my stepdad gave me my mothers ring to wear (she died in 2003). It's my most prized posession. Not only is it something close to my dead mothers heart, but it represents my husbands love for me.

I think people need to stop obsessing over the cost and concentrate on the meaning.

my first set was put in law-away and he made payments until it was paid off the second one he used money we'd set aside for a huge bill then we paid it off later. The second one was a huge surprise!

My fiance financed it, but since then, we have combined out finances. So, we are paying on it together.
