Yes, yes and yes. I am astonished at this as last year I was having problems with Telewest and wanted to cahnge to BT and they said it would cost £75.00, so that has gone up loads. Don't do it. Money grabbing mongrels.

As usual people answering here miss the point entirely.
If a BT line (Note BT not another service Provide) Line exists and has been recently working then there is No charge for the connection.
If an engineer does have to visit to ensure that this line works, because it is probably BT's fault that the line is cut off (Wires diverted to fix a fault or provide service to another customer) then there is still no charge.
If no BT line exists then an engineer has to be sent and he will have to do some work..
How much would a Plumber charge to pipe in a gas fire from scratch in your house? Yeah ! MEGA Money!
Or how about an electrician adding a new socket and having to do a bit of work in the network outside. Thats about the equivalent type of job.
So BT charge varying amounts depending on the work done, but as a company it actually costs about £140 just to get a man to your doorstep fully trained and kitted etc.
Some new houses have prefitted sockets etc. but not service, so just because you have a socket on the wall it does not mean that you have a phone line and a lot of work outside and in the exchange will need to be done, why should that be free?
How much do you think other companies charge for installing additional sockets or connecting phones? I think you will find that OFCOM regulate them all and charges are pretty standard.
So OK BT is hated for its charging, tell me a company that is better? My BT line has worked reliably for 25+ years, I have (Recently made up to 8 meg) Broadband which has never gone wrong in 5 years and the call package plan I have is no more than I would pay to AN-Other company as I make full use of Broadband technology.
British Gas Charged me £3500 for a brand new boiler now that is a ripoff.
Yes I do work for BT, but I am also a customer of theirs as well and very, very demanding!

yes it is I have a problem with open reach when they replaced my line they didn't put it back where it was they simply put it in a cupboard way at the back of my house so wireless is useless, everything has to be done by mains adaptors to get broadband was never needed prior to my line box being moved from my hall to this cupboard, had I not been at work when they came I would have demanded they put the line to the box in the hall now they want to charge to fix the problem they have created this is just plain robbery

Do you mean physically install the landline by placing phone sockets in your walls, cuz if so its quite normal sort of price i just had the wire put in for sky+ in my room and it cost me £90 with a local electrician.
And if its for the line to be activated in your home - i guess you dont have much choice but to pay it.

you decide on NTL, cable, except you decide directly to maintain a bt line, because of the fact the only virtually instantaneous organisation hasnt any the place close to rolled out yet. keep your bt line yet bar all outgoing calls, and take call of individual spoke to to do this, and time of call, additionally write to them, keeping reproduction of letter, (incorporate top rate fee...all calls to be barred). If bt bill wrongly....dont subject, you will win in small claims courtroom, as you have data your in easy terms criminal duty is the line condominium.... Then look for a calls equipment, and internet, separatly. Sky would be perfect, while totally rolled out! Ntl are common, in case you in easy terms do internet with them, you are able to in easy terms have internet shrink off in billing disputes! i discover ntl the extra effective of a bad bunch, in terms of artwork tension having the flexibility to characteristic refunds to bill immediatly (take place on next bill) particularly than bt argue, or ought to place by way of to billing, which merely jewelry and jewelry, returned!

Yes, total rip off. Makes me very cross.
When I moved into my place, it was brand new but already had all the sockets etc. All they had to do was switch on the line at the exchange. Cost me over £100. I was not pleased.
