I have been thinking about legally changing my name. No, I am not getting married, divorced, or getting a sex change- I am doing it for other personal reasons. Since I feel this is a serious thing, I wanted to know if anyone out there has had experience with it. I have researched it somewhat and still have more to do. ALSO- does anyone know the last name: Legna ? I was wondering what the geneology or heritage of it was. Thanks!

What you need to do is go to Births, Deaths and marriage's, which is a government departmant get your self a change of name form and fill it in.
You will need your original birth certificate, passport and for a small fee you can have it done.

Technically, to legally change your name all you have to do is start using your new name on all documents and in your life in general. You can also go to court to get your name changed. The exact process for this would vary based on your location.

I don't have any information about the name Legna, sorry!

My birth name was changed to another surname when I was a child. No this was not an adoption. (Mom and step-father wanting to hide from my biological father) We had to get my birth certificate amended by the courts to reflect my new name. Back then, most children did not file for a social security number until they were teens and wanted to get a job, so that part we did not have to deal with.
Sorry, other than that, I don't recall much.
