That's completely normal. You're probably at the whole butterflies in your stomach stage with him. :P That's cute.
The awkwardness will go away in about a month. But it helps to tell him "You know, I can't help but feel a bit shy." (That's what I did). He'd tell you how he's feeling as well. It's a good start to get to know what's on each other's minds.
good luck!

Just some thoughts: You could play board games (the ones that are designed to get the players to know each other better). You could both decide on working on your communication skills and make an effort to share something about yourselves each day, etc. (For example: You could share a fear that each of you have, talk about your favorite things, etc.) You could both write lists of your likes and dislikes and get a conversation going that way. You could advance to talking about profound things, such as what "silence" means or represents to each of you. Mainly, maybe you could go out with each other ALONE more, thus, giving the conversation more of a chance.
I hope these suggestions have helped or at least got you thinking. Good luck!

oh my goodness me and my boyfriend now went through the same thing. But in time as you become more comfortable with each other it should go away. Make an effort urself to be more talkative or aggressive, thats what i had to do! but honestly it just takes time, be patient if hes worth it, it'll work itself out!

go places with him where talking is not necessary like a movie. this creates some inside jokes between the two of you without the awkwardness of silence. it helps if you go to a movie with a dramatic audience.
(thats what i did, and we were laughing the entire time.)

lap dance!
:D im just kidding.
just...talk to him about random stuff, try to get laughter going on. in any situations, not only relationships, laughter lightens things up. just don't like...make it too wierd and akward [whatever you say].
