An evangelist is actively and openly seeking donations.

It depends on if the Evangelist is a true Evangelist (Called of the Lord God). A person who calls himself an Evangelist, yet isn't born of God, is really a hypocrite.

A hypocrite is someone who isn't what they profess to be.

Ted Haggart is a hypocrite. He is a sinner needing a Savior.

I believe your question should not be about "their differences" but " definitions / comparisons " ..you see, I could be an evangelist as I am sharing the word ( Matthew 28 : 19 , 20 ; Matthew 24 : 14 ) ..A hypocrite is one that says something and does the opposite as you could refer to bible examples in how Jesus labels the Pharisees and Saudicees who professed to have learnt and do know God , yet their ways are just the opposite..for Jesus is God the Son and yet they could not accept that..this caused Jesus to label them hypocrites ...So if an evangelist talks about God from his word , the bible, and does not follow it ,BANG !!! BULLS EYE !!! There is the HYPROCRITE you are asking about ! Something else : if an evangelist shares God's word ,he must BELIEVE / PRACTISE ALL of GOD'S WORD ( Matthew 28 : 20 ..teach them to OBSERVE ALL THINGS WHATSOEVER I TEACH YOU )...MOST evangelists today prefer some but ommit some...test an evangelist if he worships God on SABBATH ( SATURDAY ) or not ( SUNDAY )...if he saya SUNDAY , then he is NOT OBSERVING ALL THINGS WHATSOEVER I TAUGHT YOU..MIND YOU JESUS WORSHIPS ON SATURDAY AS HIS SABBATH AND NOT SUNDAY...the hypocrite says SABBATH , and worships on SUNDAY ...hard to chew , isn't it ? But God's word is as a SHARP SWORD which pierces through the heart ....for faith is not by hearing only but by believing ....God Bless

We Evangelists live what we preach, and hypocrites do not.

If the evanglist sticks to testifying and witnessing to their own personal experiences they are not a hipocrite it is only when they change their story to sound better then they are that they cross the line.

Most cross the line.

Excellent question. Jesus threw the money-changers out of the Temple, but the first thing the Evangelicals do is ask for money.
