Why would my husband's thyroid bloodwork come back with zero TSH and high Free T-4, and then when a scan was done (after an iodine pill was taken 24 hours before), the thyroid did NOT show up??? Wouldn't the bloodwork indicate an overactive thyroid? Why would it not show on the scan. My husband's neck has been sore for a month, and he has been running a fever, off and on, for three weeks. Can anyone give us any information before we see the doctor next week?

You're working with something other than the traditional hyper and hypo thyroid due to Grave's and Hashimoto's antibodies. I can't think of a reaction causing soreness and fever, so I would hesitant to speculate. See if there is any way you can get in to see the doctor before next week ... I think you have legitimate concerns and questions, and you really don't want to wait all that time to know what's going on.

Good luck!

I do not know what my reading were in 1976 if I knew I have forgotten. All of a sudden I started to put on weight and I mean suddenly. I my weight had been 105 and jumped to 175lbs in 5 months. After all the test were done they found that my thyroid had died. but on synthroid I lost the weight. Years latter (about 6-7) I went away and ran out shortly after that I started to reject the dead thyroid. I was very painful and had to be removed. Make sure you keep your appointment and once it is determined what the problem is stay on the proscribed plan. Keep in mind it may take a few months to get the right dosage. Good Luck

High free T4 would feedback to shut down TSH production. I would question the results of the scan. Maybe they mistakenly gave him an aspirin.
