I would just confront the son / daughter / wife / husband / employee with it and ask them what it is. If I didn't like their answer, I would snap and take more drastic measures. Smaller than a dime is still pretty large for a pill, so it kind of sounds like it could be a vitamin, supplement, or diet pill. Most prescription medications are alot smaller. If all else fails take it yourself, I'm pretty sure it is just aspirin. I have had to take, and have seen more pills than most pharmacists. But here is a link you can search to see for yourself.

Bring it to a pharmacy. Pharmacist has access to a site that has description of drugs. Since the membership to the site is not free, i don't think anybody has personal access to it but your pharmacy should have (go to a Walgreen's, CVS, ....)

Go to http://search2.drugs.com/imprints.php
You can put in a description of the pill, including any numbers and letters on it and it will let you know what it is.
