How do we find out where to ship our belongings ahead to at our first duty station? Is this what you are supposed to do or do you have to wait until you have an address? We have to report to Fort Lewis, Washington by November 19th.

you do not need a home address, all you need are orders. Your HHG will be put into storage until you actually report to your new duty station, and then you have 30 days to find housing. after that, you will have to request an extension on storage. You may or may not have to pay for storage past the 30 day mark, it really depends on the moving company.

Personal Property will send a mover out to inspect your home..they choose, you do not(unless you are doing a DITY). This is where you point what is and isn't going, what items need special packaging and which items are considered Pro Gear and do not count against your weight allowance.

There are several options for shipping your household goods, you can have them shipped via a moving company or do what is called a "self ditty move", where you move your own things and get reimbursed later. If you are reporting on 19 Nov and have not shipped your stuff yet, it probably will not be there when you arrive. Contact the closest military installation for your branch of service, they will help you. If you are not there when your stuff arrives it goes into a wharehouse, so don't worry about that. I just had all of my stuff packed up last week to ship from Cuba back to the states and I don't arrive back in the states for a few more months, they just needed my next duty location.

Go to your TMO building. or who ever deals with traveling. Finance or the housing people should be able to give you more info too. When I moved I had TMO move my stuff, and I drove to move myself, husband, cat, and jeep.

good luck. I hope they dont break or lose anything, llike they did with my stuff
