I haven't even converted to the religion I want to yet and I am having big issues with my family. I don't know how to deal with it anymore. It's mostly my mom and my sister, but my whole family is treating me so different.

All my sister does is tell me I'm going to Hell almost every day, but my mom is much worse. She always has to make snide remarks about the Catholic Church. I can't even have a discussion with her because she turns everything into religion and then it just ends in a big fight. I don't even want to talk to her anymore. She tells all my brothers and sister "Well at least you're not stupid enough to want to be Catholic" when they make a mistake, right in front of me. I'm getting tired of it, and I can't argue or yell at her because I get in trouble for being disrespectful.

I've tried to give her reasons why I chose Catholicism over Mormonism, but she never lets me finish because she always interrupts me. I told her a couple days ago how Mormons believe that God was once a man, and in the Bible it says something to the effect of how God is and has always been the same. She didn't believe me and she kicked me out of the house in my socks and volleyball shorts while it was raining and I had to walk to my friends house to stay the night.

Other then that all I hear from her is that I've screwed up my life, eternal and worldly.

It's not like I try to bring it up. It’s just that every time we talk she turns into a religious fight and I can't just walk away from her or I get in trouble. I can't stand it anymore, but I don't know what to do. I don't know if I can put up with three more years of this, because I have to wait until I'm 18 to be baptized.

Is it worth it to be baptized? Part of me wants to anyways just to get away from this because I know they won't talk to me if I do, but the other part of me doesn't want to loose my family. However, I don't want to spend the rest of my life going to a church that I don't believe just to make them happy.

There’s a lot more to this, but my post is already long enough so I won't put it down.

If any other converts of any religion have had to put up with similar behavior, what happened and how did you deal with it? How are you doing now?

When my wife and I left Mormonism we had a similur reaction from our familes. We had our own home so it wasn't as sever as what you went through. But we did have to claim a special verse:

Mattew 10:37
He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me

It might be wise to ask your mom to get the facts before making a judgment. You have evidently looked into the facts and differences and the "why" of the differences between the two religions and have decided to change. Ask your mom to do the same. She is going to have a closed mind unless she sees both sides of the issue. She may need to see what BOTH religions believe and why. I am not Catholic and as such I have problems with the Catholic faith. I think there will be Catholics in heaven as well as those of other faiths. I suggest that you read a NON Mormon and NON Catholic Bible. Read something like the New King James Version or the Revised Standard Version. Such a Bible will give you a non bias view of Christianity, the Church, Christ, the way to salvation. These Bibles are not made by or pro any particular religion. The view that Catholics have of Mary, purgatory, confession, rosary, the way of salvation are problem areas I have with the Catholic church. Your faith, your religion, what you believe, is no small thing. I suggest you talk to a main line denomination minister such as:..Lutheran, Methodist, Baptist ,Presbyterian see what they believe, what they don't believe, and why. You owe it to yourself to do this. It just might mean your eternal destiny and maybe that of your other family members too.

I'm sorry you have to go through this. I take it you are 15. Until the time comes that you have the ability to leave and choose your own faith, I would try to keep the peace and say you both love God and leave it at that.

God knows your struggle and what is in your heart. You can be Catholic in your heart without being a practicing Catholic.

Strangely enough, the Catholic religion was pushed on me as a child, I moved out at 18...spent many years searching for myself...and turned....get this...CATHOLIC on my own.

Your mom is being unfair, but she thinks she is doing what's best for you in her own way. You sound like a smart girl and I'm sure you will find your way without having people preach at you.

I will keep you in my prayers and I hope your family life improves soon. May God Bless You Always.

The Holy Bible Douay-Rheims Version

With Challoner Revisions 1749-52
1899 Edition of the John Murphy Company

IMPRIMATUR:
James Cardinal Gibbons, Archbishop of Baltimore, September 1, 1899.

Pope Damasus assembled the first list of books of the Bible at the Roman Council in 382 A.D. He commissioned St. Jerome to translate the original Greek and Hebrew texts into Latin, which became known as the Latin Vulgate Bible and was declared by the Church to be the only authentic and official version, in 1546.

The DR New Testament was first published by the English College at Rheims in 1582 A.D. The DR Old Testament was first published by the English College at Douay in 1609 A.D. The first King James Version was not published until 1611. This online DRV contains all 73 books, including the seven Deutero-Canonical books (erroneously called Apocrypha by Protestants). These seven books were included in the 1611 KJV, but not in later KJV Bibles.

The whole Douay-Rheims Bible was revised and diligently compared with the Latin Vulgate by Bishop Richard Challoner in 1749-1752 A.D. The notes included in the text were written by Dr. Challoner.

The DR Bible was photographically reproduced from the 1899 edition of the John Murphy Company, Baltimore, Maryland, by Tan Books in 1971. Eventually, this edition was optically scanned to produce a large text file which this publisher used for creating this website, with the aid of text-processing software.

One important goal of this project was to preserve the original text "as is", without making any changes in the wording, because the original text had the Imprimatur of James Cardinal Gibbons, Archbishop of Baltimore, dated Sept 1st 1899.

The text file was checked quite thoroughly by software written by the publisher for punctuation errors and verses out of order. The index was humanly checked for misspelled words and the corrections were made to the text. However, some spelling errors may still be present in the text. Many verses were out of order in the original file. These have been corrected.

Every effort was made to ensure that this online version is an exact match to the original printed version. No words were added or ommitted from the text, except for correcting errors caused by the scanning process. No words were rearranged. No verse numbers were changed, except in the case of Psalm 9.

Psalm 9 originally contained 21 verses and there were 2 versions of Psalm 10, numbering 1-18 and 1-8. This obviously caused a conflict, so it was decided to make the first Psalm 10 as the last part of Psalm 9 and renumber the verses 22-39. This retains the same numbering as all the Douay Rheims. Note, in the Protestant Bibles the numbering of Psalms 10 through 146 differs by one.

The mormon religion as you know believes they are better than every non mormon and their going to hell. I don't believe the catholic religion is the best but they believe in the bible and not Joseph Smith. I feel bad your in such a tyranical household. My advise would be to relize everyday that there is a world outside of your life. And pray to God for strenth to make it through your tough times. Life will get better trust in hope it will get you through. Search for the truth and you will find it. Dont be put off to God because of your household. God has a purpose for you besides being a mindless drone of the mormon religion. Put aside religion and search for a relationship with your creator. Then you will know the truth in your heart. My prayers are with you.

Persecution :( (raised Catholic as well)

Fast and Pray for your family to soften. If they don't make peace at home, the Lord knows your desire to be baptized. If it will seriously jeopardize your relationship wait and still continue to go to church. If you can be baptized and remain low key do that.

I am the only LDS Christian in my family, but it is worth it.

My family sees the support I get from the church, my life is great and I am happy. The church is my extended family, they see the error of their ways I am sure of it, be the example, the Lord is on your side and He will work on your parents, too. When you learn more about the gospel and doctrine you will be able to teach them correct doctrine and ways by your example. That is what I do :))) ))))) )))))

You have the truth, hold it sacred, the truth shall prevail.

Paraphrasing Christ; they persecuted beat and killed me do you not think they will do the same or worse to you. Leave you fammily and come follow me.

No this does not mean to run away but it does mean that if God is calling you to live as a Catholic then follow God not your persecutors.

I disagree with parts of Catholicism but for many it is fulfilling and enriching. God uses all people to achieve God's goals and call differnet people to different ways of worshiping and life. Follow God but never be suprised when you are persecuted for doing so. Count yourself in the companny of the very best; Jesus, the Disciples all of the Saints from all Christian sects and all of the martyrs in all the opressed areas of the globe.

I was raised in a catholic home and became convinced through scripture that I needed to find my way to the Lord according to His terms, and not that of any church. My family thought it was because I was lonely, bored, well, you fill in the blanks, the only difference between you and I was that I was married and not living with my parents when I came to that decision. Please go to the Bible for your source of wisdom, don't take anyone's interpretation of it for you. Trust God to show you the way. All you need is an honest heart, and a true desire to know His truth, and He will show you.

God bless you!

Oh my goodness, you have got it goin' on at home don't you? Wow, there can hardly be anything more at odds. With the Catholic Faith you have totally got the TRUTH and with the Mormons you have total lies. I feel sorry for your family they are so caught up in this. Keep up your strength and go to www.savior.org and you will see Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament of the alter there. The Bread that came down from Heaven. He will help strengthen you. You have got to get away from the Mormon mentality though or they will drown you .

Whatever you do stay on the trach you are on - because it determines your eternal life.
Mormonism is false religion - with tenets directly opposed to Christianity. It is exactly what Satan wants to do to take people from eternal life.
Jesus was not just a man but God, The Mormon Bible is altered, men do not become gods....
Please be baptized - that is God himself calling to your heart because once you acknowledge him publicly he will open up great things to you. He will protect you, and Romans 12 lets you know he will deal with those who oppose you. You rest in him and follow him with all of your heart! He loves you and is revealing himself to you.
