I am assuming you mean you do WANT to make tacos with a good taste to them. It's all in the little things you can do to the seasoning. Try adding just a pinch of cumin seed and chopped onion to the ground meat (I usually use turkey) while it is cooking. Drain off the excess moisture/fat and add the taco seasoning pack, I recommend Lawry's. In your garnishes shred some lettuce squeeze some lime and add in some minced cilantro.

You could also make a pico de gallo w/ chopped roma tomatoes, onion (white), roasted chili peppers, a pinch cumin powder, chopped garlic, and lime juice. and use it instead of just plain tomatoes.

to make guacamole - add pico to a ripe avocado viola!

add a can of refried beans and some mexican rice and you got a meal that you really ought to invite me to...

I used to make ground beef tacos where I made my own blend of seasonings and extra additions. Now, I just use a package mix (McCormicks, Lawry's and Taco Bell are all good), but I still sautee in about 1/4 cup of chopped onion and use chicken broth instead of water. My guest and kids like it all the same so I simplified the whole process.

However, I got tired of ground beef on day and substituted sliced chicken breast. To my surpise, people raved about the tacos. I think people liked the chicken because bigger chunks of meat, less greasy and something different than the typical ground beef taco.

Another thing that adds to the yumminess is fresh in-season fillings, if you can find it. Fresh cripsy lettuce shreds... smooth creamy avacados/guacamole and fresh tomato salsa add the little extra. As Emeril and other TV chefs call it... "adds the love" to the dish. I think people can taste, feel the texture and see that you've put the "extra" work into the whole meal that they appreciate it.

Good luck in your search.
