I need to have a bed in my basement - but there is a stair way and the full matress will make the turn - but the box spring won't - I am hoping to make a simple plat form - I do have a metal bed frame, can I just add slats or a platform around it? I need to be able to do this by myself.

The simplest way I can think of to make a platform without lots of cutting and nailing would be to buy some thick MDF and lay it atop some concrete blocks that you have painted to match your decor and laid out in a rectangle the same size as your mattress. If you add a line of blocks to the center you will be able to use 2 boards ( so they will be small enough to make the turn). To keep the boards from slipping around, you can secure them to the corner blocks with Liquid Nails.

plywood is your best bet. I have seen nice ones done with a lip around the 3 sides kinda like a built in side table. so you measure how big you want it cut more then likely 2 sheets the size you want then paint, stainor throw a bed skirt over the wood and place it on top of your metal frame, milk crates, cement blocks what ever you've got. get crazy build a brick base around the bottom .
