I have very wavy/curly hair that grows upward (rather than downward to my shoulders). My hair is pretty healthy although I've relaxed it before. Its about five inches long in the front and tapered in the back. I just want sleek, sexy, professional looks that can be worn to school and work.

I'm in cosmetology school and I will not be visiting a hair stylist for advice on growing my hair. I have always had bad experiences with hair stylists as they do not care about my feelings only about making money.

I am a licensed cosmetologist, so my advise is that you go to your hairdresser and let her know that you are growing out your hair but would like help on keeping it trim ed(makes it easier to manage) during the process, and she will recommend products to help you deal with the agony of growing it out.

If I'm picturing your hair correctly then maybe an angled, swingy bang (the kind that is swept to the side instead of on your forehead and grazes the cheekbones, like a lot of models have) would work for the front while you let the back grow. I know what you're thinking, really curly hair doesn't swing! But it can become much softer and more manageable (sleeker) with twice weekly deep conditioning. This totally transformed my once frizzy, still curly hair. It now blowdries smooth in only about 10 to 15 minutes instead of an hour, after a little air drying first. A little straightening balm helps too and will keep the back smooth as it grows out.
