I have a sound card but no sound. I have done everything I know to correct it. Please help?

I think it may be something to do with plug-ins.Last night I tried to install windows media 11 and now it is really messed up.

Did you try reinstalling the driver? I had that problem with an computer, but it ended up being a problem with the driver.
