Bichons are sweet-faced and sweet tempered, playful, very smart and alert. The are pretty good watchdogs, even though they are small because they will alert you. Good luck-You are going to have so much fun!

As an owner of several Bichon Frise, past and present, I can say most definiately that you will love this dog as long as you love it back. They are intelligent, resourseful, sneaky, loving, and many more attributes that make them one of the best dogs I have ever owned. They are great with kids and adults alike. They are a family dog.

Begin training them early. The earlier the better. You must be patient and show them they did right with posititve reinforcement. All of my BF's lived to be over 12 years old. Normal life span is 8 years.

Keep its ears clean, properly plucked of hair, to prevent infections. Groom daily to keep the hair from knotting. If you are not going to show the dog, have the dew claws removed during the first nail trimming. They will have to sedate them to do that. As the dog matures, if it is female, the scent glands around the anus can get plugged up and will need draining. DO NOT TRY TO DO THIS YOURSELF. Let the vet do it. Every 3 months have its nails trimmed. Every six months a good check up.

Sounds expensive. My oldest one lived to be 18 years old and was active right up to the day we had to put her down. She broke her back jumping off her favorate chair.

I have a Bichonpoo. She is 13 weeks old and a sweetheart. She is so smart. Easily trainable. I take her to a meeting with me, the meeting lasts an hour an no one knows she is there. I have been able to train her not to bark simply by telling her "no bark". She goes every where with me and steals everyones heart. She will be going to puppy kindergarten in a couple of weeks to begin more formal training and to socialize her with other dogs.

My girlfriend had one of those. It was the most friendly little dog. It was excellent with her small children.
