i set my cam up to be used as a web cam but it turns off after 5 minutes

Look through the settings menu and alter the time.

Most will not time-out if they are operating from the AC adapter power. If it does, then just remove the cassette and leave the door open. But do cover the camcorder to keep dust out.

You can plug it up to an AC Adaptor and remove the tape from the tape deck. You shouldn't have to leave it open, but if closing doesn't work for you, then leave it open. Like stated before, watch for dust build up.

Don't look into the cam it gets scared of you and close its eyes then shut's down

Go to your camera's menu setting and disable the autosleep timer - if this is not possible, you should still be able to increase the time.
