WHAT IF is a very useful tool to both know that things could be worse, and feel relief about it, AND know that things could be better, and work to improve them. I think it's good we have WHAT IF's.

Extremely profound question!!!!!!

The primary function of cognitive process around short term memory for the past 3 billion years has been survival. Survival mandates that an organism perform the "WHAT IF" thinking to predict the future.

1) How to avoid being eaten,

2) Where to get food and

3) Where to go to reproduce.

That WHAT IF prediction occurs based upon inputs from our past (long term memory) and updates from our environment (sensory memory). The WHAT IF prediction machine that we know as our cognative mind manages survival, generating for us the predictions to support our decision making and actions.

Without it, we could not anticipate the future.

Actually, since we are not promised a tomorrow, that's the typical attitude Christians are supposed to have....sadly, we don't always keep eternity in the forefront of our minds as we aught to, and that's when cares about silly things take precedence over God and our precious loved ones and members of our community, who don't know about His saving grace take second place in our hearts.

Befor the Fall of Adam, you could only Choose between GOOD and GOOD.
What if? (Adam hadn't Blown-It?)
You need an Imagination to consider "What If", otherwise we'd just be Robots.

If "What If" didn't exist, we couldn't answer the question, since it would not exist. You would create one of those darn paradoxes.
(I hate it when that happens.)

It certainly might reduce the amount of noise on this forum, for one.

"What If" does not exist! Your question makes no sense.
