Not really. In the book of Exodus, the maids of the woman who found Moses lied to protect him from being killed for being a Hebrew. God knows your heart, so if you do lie to protect yourself or others from harm, I'm sure he'll understand.

To protect yourself or others especially children? -- NO this is OK. It's still lying - but your right - it's not selfish - it is to protect people.
This is part of the power GOD/Jesus gave priests to remove lies from us, to give us comfort. Lies need to be removed from a persons conscience before they sour the soul.
Your second question deals with breaking a commandment, which is something to avoid. Bearing false witness against others is never good. Justice is provided by GOD, and humans - even if it's painful - must accept this.
This is very hard to live with as humans live such short lives - and need immediate closure to painful events. GOD has a different plan for every action, people will ever know about.

A lie is a lie, regardless of why you told it. In general, society says some lying is ok. It all depends on what you mean by 'ok' and whose 'ok' you're looking for. To God, yes, it is a sin, regardless of what society says. His standards are pure, He doesn't grade on a curve (you're better than someone else, so you're ok.) If everyone has lied, God will find everyone guilty of it. There's no percentages or curve involved here. That's the bad news.
The good news is that forgiveness is available if you put your faith and trust in Jesus. If you need details, please ask.

A lie is a lie, regardless of how you try and flower it up or conceal it. I totally understand why people lie, I have lied and am under no illusion as to the myriad of reasons people do it.
The fact remains though - lying is lying is lying, whether a small deviation of the truth is committed or a large one...either way it's a deviation from the truth and is thus, by definition, a lie.

Yes. It doesn't matter what the reason is for lying, it's still lying. There's no getting around that at all. including white lies. That is still lying.

A lie is a lie is a lie.
If you don't want to give out certain information in order to protect yourself and you don't want to lie about it, just don't give any information at all. If someone asks you a question you don't want to answer, just don't answer.
As far as intent . . . you know what they say about the road to hell . . .

It's still a lie, but that doesn't make it wrong. Intent and consequence are far more important than whether or not a statement is truthful (except in the academic realm, of course).

What would the world be like if Jesus lied and pointed to Peter when the temple guards asked which one is Jesus?
It is not justice if it is achieved through lies and decit. Justice is based on truth.

Deception is deception.
Why make up a location and name online, when all you have to do is "hide" the information and not openly disclose it?
Justice is rarely, if ever, served by lies.
