I know this is probably a shot in the dark but... My parents were in Niagra Falls in 1950 on their honey moon. They bought a painting (not a very expensive one, but nice) while they were there. My sister borrowed it and while she had it in her home there was a fire and everything was lost. We have been looking for the painting ever since it was destroyed. It was a picture of an old English Cottage. Lots of greenery and some flowers. I think it had a thached roof. Can anyone help find another one?

These sites seem to have a lot of info: www.absolutearts.com and www.wwar.com.

You can enter an artist name, medium, location, etc. and see what comes up. If the artist is dead some gallery contact might come up. Those galleries can give you more info on the worth of pieces, the time frame, medium, etc. The might be able to put you in touch with buyers (if you are interested). Value of art depends on the condition and if it's an original and when in the artist's career it was produced.
