Why don't people read the whole question? Hmm... well, once they see the word "God" or "Jesus" I guess they stop reading and make the rest of it up themselves, there is a lot of emotion in religion these days.
In answer to the first question, I am aware that it is illegal to give a child an 'inconvenient' name in Germany: http://dilbertblog.typepad.com/the_dilbert_blog/2006/03/illegal_names.html but as for illegal i'm not sure.
I should think that illegal is taking it a bit far, authorities may simply refuse to register a name.
Don't let some replies put you off asking questions, this is how we grow as people and as a species.

Satan & Hitler would just be plain wrong. Why would anyone do that? God, is a bit different because of the whole Greek Mythology thing about all the different gods, but it's still not good. Jesus is not seen as a bad name b/c it's a pretty common name in the hispanic culture.

In Russia you have the female name Satana is that close enough to Satan? .In Mexico Jesus is a common name and is pronounced - Hey Souse. Hitler is a Surname not a first name and his family still sport the name!
As for God, I don't know of a living person called God but there is a place called Godmanchester.

It depends on where you live. In the USA you can name your kid most anything you want to name him/her.
In France you have to give your child a nice "French" name and the officials will refuse to approve the birth certificate until you give the child an appropriate name. This is one reason they are having so much trouble with Muslims in France.
I recall a famous singer in the 70's named her daughter "god" but later she had to change it to "China" due people thinking it was a horrible idea.
The problem with giving your child an outrageous name is the child has to suffer with the name until he/she is of age to change the name. Your child may not be like you. I was a complete liberal hippy; my son is a totally conservative republican. What if I had named him: Satan Hitler Anarchist ? He would never have been able to get a job and his classmates would have roasted him on a daily basis.

I have an unusual first name and I always liked it. I felt sorry for all the other girls in my class who seemed to be called Gillian or Sharon. I wouldn't name a child Satan because that seems to be what most rottweillers are called but Jesus is nice, pronounced the Spannish way. In the Islamic faith it is is common to be called Mohammed so I dont see what the big fuss is about Jesus!

In many countries, Jesus is an accepted forename. It is true, though, that ministers can refuse to baptise children with names which they find unacceptable. Hitler is actually a surname, but kids still get called Adolf. And many people are named after gods, eg Dennis, Venus.

no it is not illegal, you can name a child whatever you want to, you only have to look at some of the names that the stars give their kids, sadly some people just do not think about what their child may have to go through when they give them whacky names, so maybe they should pass a law that stops them from doing it.

You have asked quite an emotive question as you can see by the responses.
You can call your child anything you like in the UK.
It is illegal to call a child Hitler in Germany.

You can name your child whatever you like, I know quite a few Jesus. But its very bad taste IMHO to name them Hitler or Satan.
