Eve was a woman. She ate from the forbidden tree. This is something I wouldn't have done. It seems rather foolish. Adam was a man. He also ate from that particular tree. Although God punnished both of them, He took it a lot harder on Eve because she did it first. As punnishment women were cursed with many missfortunes, for example, women would menstruate every month. Now, millions of years later (or thousands, whatever you believe) women still menstruate every month. I did not commit the first sin, nor did I decide to be a woman, so why am I being subjected to such cruel punishment?

Men call menstruation a curse because they want to downplay the fact that reproduction is a gift given only to women. Sperm does nothing without a woman's egg and body to give it life. Don't assume that just because somebody calls something a curse, it actually is. It's all in how you frame it.

Now, as someone with PCOS, I realize that menstruation can be horribly painful and debilitating (I went into shock during my last period before going on birth control pills to stop me from having periods, um, period.) But it's not a curse. I know I have a physical problem, but the power of making babies lies in menstruation--reframe the way you look at "the curse" and you'll realize that Genesis was written by some jacka ss who didn't understand that it's a gift. It's not punishment to be able to have babies. Sometimes, the process goes awry, but it's not a curse in general. I mean, sometimes people get brain tumors, or get liver tumors, or heart failure...that doesn't mean their organs are a curse, just that they have diseases.

Don't assume there's something wrong with you because you're a woman! Anyone (or any book, "holy" or not) that says you're inferior or cursed because you're a woman is wrong! Rise up, and recast your "curse" in the light of truth! You're blessed to be a woman! Don't let some jealous man or self-hating woman tell you otherwise.

Dear, you have been blessed with the power to give life. Something Christians seem to forget these days, suffering is a blessing. True faith can only be found through suffering.

When you have a child someday you will understand what I mean. However, if your menstruation's are really so bad that you think God is punishing you... go talk to your gynecologist about medication. There are very good products that can help reduce the impact of your monthly cycle.

Remember: Satan, he did it for you! ^^

Dear helpme,

As a 46 year old woman, let me tell you, if you did not have your monthly period, how would you know that you were a woman. You want to have kids one of these days don't you. Children are a gift of God. Your mother went through the childbearing pains when you were born. Do you think that she felt the same way you feel now. What if she had decided she didn't want to go through the pain she had with you? Where do you think you would be today? What do you think your future boyfriend/husband would feel?

Think about that for a while and ask them what they think.
God Bless you.

God did not give it as a curse but as a blessing.

No where does the Bible say that women's periods are God's punishment for Eve's sin. Eve was not "re-created" after the sin to include all of her female plumbing. Eve could have concieved before the Fall.
You would have done no better that Adam and Eve did. In fact, Adam had the greater responsibility for the sin, because he knew God's command first hand, Eve had to learn it from Adam. Adam either taught it to her wrong, or she misunderstood what he said.
Either way, that fact that you are a sinner comes as much from the fact that you sin as it does from the fact that as a duaghter of Eve, you inherit their sin.
Having periods is not punishment. Earning food by the swear of your brow is.

Nothing in that story actually happened, honey. That was just a story we told ourselves to remind us that God is there, that we cause Him trouble by being disobedient sometimes, and that innocence is easily lost. Whether the physical details in that story were true doesn't matter. It's just meant to be a lesson in the primer of life.

You have a monthly period because that is how your body's fertility works. It works that way because it just happened to turn out like that. Your body's biology is not a punishment, it is merely a fact of birth. If you are experiencing particularly uncomfortable, long, or heavy cycles, take the advice of some of the other answerers and see a doctor.

Sweetie, you are not being punished by having monthly periods. You need to look at it from a different viewpoint. Women have been given the gift of creating life. Men were not given this gift. God gifted US. If you didn't have your period, you wouldn't be able to have children. Yes, periods can be a pain, but look at the real physiological reason for having them, not a misconceived notion about being "punished." Start thinking about why God picked women to give birth and not men. It may occur to you that God knew we were better able to raise children, love and nurture them than men could.

Sin was brought into the world and seperated mankind from God... God provided a way for mankind to return to Him... most reject The Way... sin altered the genetic code that would have alowed mankind to have eternal life in TheGarden and the defects in the code cause all the ills that man is prone to now...but...as far as any act you may have commited you are not being "punished". You are suffering the concequences of your own actions... if you are not of The Church then you are not bound by the law of The Church... sin has no meaning for you... and it is not any "sin" that you commit that will keep you seperated from God... it is your rejection of Him that will keep you seperated from Him and keep you out of Heaven. That is your own choise and not the result of what happened in past generations...

Look, Eve was innocent. She knew nothing. She was told by god that everything was groovy, and nothing could harm her except the tree of wisdom. So she assumed that meant even the snake. If god tells you everything is okay, you believe him, right? She was as a child, and easily led. When the snake came up to her, she believed it was a creature of god, and wanted to be as good and perfect as god herself, so saw no harm in it. This is my atheistic view of the story.

The bible stories were made up to explain things in a time where people didn't understand how things actually worked. You have to have a period becasue that is how human women mature. Has nothing to do with God, Eve, the snake, or anything else. As you imply, it's a random chance that you just happened to be born female. Sucks, don't it? I hate mine. Inconvenient.

You would have never have been born honey. Women mensruate because God took a piece of an organ out of eve to give it to adam to complete man. Eve gave adam the apple so she was punished first. Besides without our monthly visitor, we won't be able to give life. Think of it that way.

First of all, I would like to know if you believe in God. If you know of him but choose to ignore His magnificence, then there is no point is answering this question seriously. And if you choose not to believe in God than you could not possibly understand the events in the book of Genesis.

However, if you know of God but don't know God and would like to, then I would love to help you understand the events in the Garden of Eden. After you believe in Jesus and that He died for our sins and arose on the third day, and believe in salvation through his blood, and accept Him into your heart, then you will understand and not ask this question.

I am here to help you understand. Are you serious about the answer?

God Bless You!
