If your looking for a small one, "Traveler" a German camera from Audi Stores, I saw one 8 meg in their yesterday. I have had 2 of that make, repair service was excellent, and quality was second to none. I now use a Panasonic DMC 20 with a beautiful Leica zoom, great but I like SLR shape cameras, though they make quite a compact model more meg than mine. (I did photography and weddings for years). I brought my worst one off ebay, it was a TRUPIX 12 meg cost £89. from googlepix. a total rip off, but paypal got me a full refund. This one came from Jessops at a very good price. If you haven't brought from ebay before, check properly at the feedback, and be guided by others comments. Just because a dealer may sell 20 or so items a day, does not mean you can trust them. I was lucky with paypal I found out just in time that I had to make my complaint to them within 45 days, or it was kiss goodby. You are best to go along to a dealer and try some out and study the form. Then if you can get a better price on ebay OK but check their returns it may only be for a short time. A camera is not a thing you buy and throw away a few weeks later. It's worth paying a bit extra. This is a lot of typing with two fingers. good luck!!

Depends if you have £5000 or £50. If you want to get into DLSR photography try the £500 ish Canon 350d..has just been superceded by 400d for about same money but 10 mega pixel is apparently not that noticeable improvement and you should crack a good deal on outgoing model but don't count on it the 300d was rare as hens teeth at the end of their run

From reading reviews, the Canon Powershot A540 offers the best value for money, with lots of features and good performance. The Fujifilm Finepix F30 has won awards already. It's more expensive, but allows you to shoot in very low light conditions without flash.

Obviously everybody feels their camera is best. If you basically want a point & shoot with no fuss there's lots to choose from; but if you want to learn photography you'll want a single lens reflex (SLR).
