Lip rings will mess up your teeth. They crack your teeth and increase your chance for cavities and root canals. If you break off a big enough chunk of your teeth, you may even have to have it removed. They also destroy your gums and cause recession which leads to gum disease (periodontal disease) and if your gums recede, your bone will recede and eventually your teeth will fall out. In other words, I would really recommend not getting a tongue ring.

I don't know about your teeth but, i can't remember how many people have come through our sacred doors looking for help because their lip rings, their eyebrow rings and nose rings, Oh! I forgot, the inevitable tongue stud, have created the most God awful infection you have ever saw.
I would suggest if you don't already have one of these to reconsider it, or, we'll be seeing you Honey.

Any kind of metal near your teeth will eventually wear down your enamel, like a toungue peircing for example, but it will not make your teeth crooked.

I don't know about the teeth part- but it can make your gums pretty nasty and discolored. I know someone that happened to and the dentist made her take it out.
