you can go to a lawyer or go directly to the immigration offices they will give the paper work you need to fill out.
its easier with a lawyer but more expensive. the other way you do it yourself and you only pay what is require by the ins or whatever is called now.
i know of people that had used paralegals. they are cheaper.
it will be a year before you get the green card, so you cant leave the country for that year. in a few months you will get the social security number and it will say that you can work.
depending of how long you've been married, its how long you have to wait before applying to be a citizen.
they want your immigration card, the one you get in the airport when you arrive, the marriage certificate, your spouse's w2, and maybe more things that i cant remember anymore. i did this 8 years ago.
good luck!!!

To get your green card, your US citizen spouse files an I-130 and I-485 for you. In the interim he/she can also file an I-765 to get you work authorization and an I-131 to get you permission to travel, if you were not illegal prior to your marriage.
If you were illegal, skip the 131 and meet with an Immigration Attorney to make sure, as this is not legal advice

Citizenship may be acquired in one of two ways; either as a natural citizen or a naturalized citizen. Those who obtain their citizenship at birth are referred to as natural citizens, while those who become citizens at some time after their birth are referred to as naturalized citizens.
You may apply for naturalization if:
You have been a lawful permanent resident for five years.
You have been a lawful permanent resident for three years, have been married to a US citizen for those three years, and continue to be married to that U.S. citizen.;
You are a lawful permanent resident child of United States citizen parents: or
You have qualifying military service.
Step 1: Go to Do-it-Yourself Citizenship Application, Test and Interview Products.
Step 2: Submit a complete and accurate application form with all the necessary attachments and requirements. You must ensure that the application is submitted to the correct Immigration Office.
Step 3: Prepare for the multiple choice examination which will include questions about US History, Government Structure and English Proficiency.
Step 4: Prepare for the Citizenship Interview with an Immigration Officer.
Step 5: Await Immigration approval and date for the naturalization ceremony.
Once your application is approved, you will be required to take the following Oath of Allegiance to the United States in order to become a U.S. citizen.
OATH OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE
UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
"I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the armed forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God."
Step 5: Find out if you are an eligible candidate for retaining your current citizenship and obtaining dual citizenship.
1. File an application.
2. Take a naturalization examination.
3. Participate in an Oath Ceremony.

After you marry a US citizen, you must file for permanent residence. After obtaining permanent residence, you then file for citizenship based on marriage to a US citizen. Visit the the US Immigration (USCIS) website for more info.

After you marry a U.S. citizen and say, she has an accident and you have a big insurance policy on her.
Well, you get the picture.
You probably won't even want to live here.
