Just because your dog is rubbing his butt on the carpet doesn't mean he has worms... rubbing his butt on the floor may be an indication that he needs his anal gland busted (sounds nasty I know)... all dogs have a gland around their anus that can become swollen... most dogs this releases pretty easy... if it does not... they will rub their backsides on the carpet/ground to break this (which will prevent infection)...
Most worm infestations cause the following symptoms: diarrhea... perhaps with blood... weight loss... dry hair... general poor appearance.... vomiting... perhaps with worms in the vomit... the best thing to do for this is check the pets stool... to find evidence of these parasites... you have to look at the feces of the animal... if you think that it may be roundworms... a home remedy for these are tobacco... the nicotine from tobacco (not smoked or the smoke) will kill them... (take just the tobacco from a cig. and put it in the dogs mouth)... this even works much of the time for tapeworms....
The best thing to do for other types of worms is to take your dog... and a sample of his stool to a vet... the vet will analyze it and give you proper medications...
Bear in mind.... use gloves or something protective when you touch the stool... worm larvae can spread to humans... so keep children and other pets away from the feces.... many worms (such as the toxicara canis female can drop up to 100,000 eggs per day)...

Usually when a dog butt scoots across the carpet, he or she is trying to empty their anal sacs. You should make an appointment with the vet and get the vet to empty the glands for you. If your dog goes for regular grooming, some groomers will do this as part of the grooming session. You should ask if this is something they do.
As far as worms go, if your dog has worms depending on the type they will quite likely vomit and you will see worms in the vomit. If they have a tape worm you will see what looks like tiny grains of rice around your pets anus...so check to see if this is the problem (this may cause scooting as well). This can be taken care with a trip to the vet and they can give your dog a pill for tapeworms. This is not something that you can buy over the counter. Tapeworms require meds from a vet prescription.
I hope that helps!

Take your pet to the vet and they will do a fecal on it and can let you know if it has worms.Every dog that stays outside should be wormed every 3 to 4 months and if it stays inside ,it should be wormed every 5 months. And repeated in two weeks.A small pup should be wormed at 2,4,6,8,10,12 wks. of age.If in a heavyly contaminated area, intervals should be closer together than above for adults.

It most likely means one of two things.
One, your dog could have worms. A quick way to find out is by taking a fresh stool sample to your veterinarian and they will tell you if he has any intestinal parasites and, if so, treat him.
It could also mean that your dogs anal sacs need to be expressed. All dogs have to sacs located just inside of their rectum that can fill up with liquid. That, too, only takes a simple visit to the vet to have them manually express his sacs.

It's either worms or a full anal sac. Take him to the vet to be sure. A worming medication shouldn't be too costly, and an anal sac expression shouldn't be too much, either. The vet can also show you how you can do it yourself at home.

Most intestinal parasites can only be seen microscopically, you may want to have a stool check done on your pet. Although, it has been my experience that if your dog is scooting, he probably needs his anal glands expressed by the vet. Most dogs express them when they deficate, however, some dogs need them to be expressed by the vet (my dog included), if they become very full it is very uncomfortable for your pet. I would give your vet a call and schedule an appt. to have them checked.

i raise dogs and you must worm your dogs every 5 - 6 months. if your dog has tape worms it will look like little grains of rice in their poop, if they have hook worms, you may not know until you worm them. after they are wormed you will find long spaghetti looking worms in their poop. it is very cheap to worm your dog, i would go a head and worm him.

Sounds like he does. It is safe to treat for worms even if he does not have them and it relatively cheap. Go see your vet.

It sounds like he just needs his anal glands expressed. Certain breeds are notoriously bad about this type of problem. I'd see a vet but, I'd also bring a sample of his most recent bowel movement in a baggy for them to check out too.
