Providing your hunted quarry (pheasants, partridge, grouse etc are in season and you have permision from the land owner other wise you are poaching then yes its legal. One pointer i must make to you is if you intend to hunt such quarry with a hawk then you should puchase a game licence from your local main postoffice for the price of £6. To kill game in england and wales without one of thease is illegal.
Happy hunting

Falconry seems to be covered by the same laws as anything else, it's just another form of hunting. So if you have the landowner's permission then everything should be OK.

But there are some misconceptions about pheasants in the UK here, the pheasant is not indiginous to the UK and only survives because it is protected and nurtured by gamekeepers. As someone else pointed out, pheasants are so stupid and useless that you can pretty much walk up to them. As a boy I was a scout and we used to go to Northfield Head Farm which is on Salter's Way just west of Prendwick (which appears on the map as a village but is actually a farm) in Northumberland, we'd see the gamekeeper gathering the hen pheasants so that they could lay their eggs in an enclosure where the foxes wouldn't get to them. All he used was two labradors, they'd just run catch them and bring them back to him.

So anyway, they are farmed game birds, they only exist in the UK because hunting pays to breed and protect them. On the flip side they are game birds, so if you hunt them without permission the law calls that poaching and you can lose everything the law deems to be part of your poaching gear, which can include your car and your bird.

But still, it is legal to hunt pheasant with a hawk in the UK.

It maybe poaching i knew a gamekeeper years ago if you run a pheasant down and pick it up and take it home its poaching But if you are driving along and see a fresh dead one and pick it up its not poaching because you did not kill it. So be car full you may be caught for poaching may be get permission from land owner first.

As long as it`s not out of season. Some people might take offence though. I would. Pheasants are wild creatures, they are not there just for the taking in this country.

bit of a pointless question. Pheasant are so stupid that you could walk up to them with a pot full of boiliong water and they'd climb in. Same for grouse. They are SOOOOOOOOO thick that they run away from my dogs - not fly, run.

In my experience, just ask the farmer whose land your hawk will fly in whether its ok. Most of the time, the farmer will be more than happy for you to fly your hawk, especially if it catches stuff.
