Even thought I'm just a little bit Arabic, (My grandfather is half)
I still claim to be Arabic when people ask.
Is this alright to do?

You sound as if to be an Arab is a crime. What kind of a question is this? Did not God create the Arabs too? Did He not create the Americans, the English, the Europeans, the Chinese, the Japanese and the Africans? Has God made a mistake in His creation by favoring a race to another? You should have more confidence in yourself, and should respect yourself much more. If you were born in America, you should be loyal to America and not to the Arabs. They are the ones whom you lived with all your life; you were raised to learn their values, their faith, their culture. You should love them and be loyal to them, not to who your grandfather was. If people follow your philosophy, then all Americans will end up fighting each other. Those who created America were once from a different country, but now they are willing to die for the country that raised them up and taught them to be what they are-free men and women. It is wrong to be faithful to the Arabs any more; If you are you would be charged with treason. You should be proud to be what you are if you were born in America. Be proud of America and forget where your grandfather came from.

Interesting question. You have Arabic origins and so could claim Arabic descent but whether you can claim to be "Arabic" is I think doubtful. There are parallels in Amercian culture - Irish Amercian, African Amercian etc. The titles all reflect both origins and present....depending on where you live matybe you could be Arabic Amercian, English etc etc You are though what you feel so I shouldn't worry about it too much.

You could say you're 1/8th Arabic if people are assuming you have Arabic ancestry, if they seem interested tell them the rest of the story. Might be a good conversation starter.

If you are only one eighth why would you tell people you are Arabic and nothing else? It would be different if you were telling people that you were part Arabic. That is more accurate don't you think? I am part Louisiana Creole and I am very fond of that part of my heritage but because I am less than one quarter I don't identify solely as creole because that is misleading.

If you are 1/8 Arabic, but maybe 6/8 something else, it would be kind of deceitful, but if you are not mostly anything, then what you are doing is fine.

why not???? you're not hurting anyone by it! Why don't you just say I'm part blah blah and part arabic if you are unsure of what to tell people. I'm arabic too but my Grandad is half Armenian, so I say i'm part arabic, part armenian because it makes me sound more interesting lol.

I think you can claim any heritage you like within the subgroups you may belong to. I am native american and polish. I usually go be Native american as my uncle and father are enough Native american to be considered a minority and have it on their birth certificates. I am proud of both though and think it is important to learn about both and teach my children about both.

It is your hertitage, be proud of it. We all came from somewhere and have any number of backgrounds. That is what makes us unique and great. Can you imagine how boring it would be if everyone were the same?
