(As For me: I have noticed that Science supports religion and my belief in God. There are several items regarding this in the Quran: Regarding oceanography, biology, geology, Embryology, Geography, Astronomy, among other sciences. Being a Mathematician as well as an Engineer, my experience has been that that Science in fact can be used as a tool to understand better God's creation and appreciate the beauty of all around us).

What are your thoughts?

Warmest Regards,
Muslimah!

Science and Religion don't contradict each other...People contradict science and religion...Because people take the word of man as the word of God...Science and God actually strengthen each other...Problem is Science is based on the laws of Physics...and religion is based on Spirituality...Don't the two...If you really think about evolution or the big bang...You can really appreciate the Glory of God...More importantly, think about spiritual emotions...Love, Hate, Compassion, happiness, sorrow...These are the Nature of religion...Science can not explain these...Good Luck Take Care

Truth cannot conflict with truth. Therefore no true religious belief can conflict with any true scientific finding. If science proposes something that is truly opposed to what God has revealed, then that is false science. However, in my years as a scientist I have never seen such a situation. And, if something clearly demonstrated by science as objectively true conflicts with someone's subjective interpretations of the Bible, then that is false biblical interpretation. Unfortunately, those who make such unauthoritative guesses about the meaning of the Bible generally see themselves as infallible, and therefore are willing to demonize any ideas that don't conform to their personal biblical interpretations, no matter how much evidence supports such ideas.

Science and religion are both trying to answer the same question: Why?

However they do it in different ways.

Religion is a "top down" approach: The answer to Why is because God said so.

Science is a "bottoms up" approach: The answer to Why is because the laws of nature said so. The laws of nature can be loosely interpreted to mean God.

my experience is that secular science is strongly driven by religous humanist assumptions... it is more like another religous view. It is actually not the data but the assumption one brings to the table where the most disagreement is about... not the data but the philosophy

Renowned Evolutionist Richard Lewontin once candidly wrote: "We take the side of science in spite of the patent absurdity of some of its constructs, in spite of its failure to fulfill many of its extravagant promises of health and life, in spite of the tolerance of the scientific community for unsubstantiated just-so stories, because we have a prior commitment to materialismYwe cannot allow a Divine Foot in the door." - 'Billions and billions of demons', The New York Review, January 9, 1997, p. 31.

I find lots of good scientists with substantial work have convincing explainations of the creation, the fall, the flood, and have wonderful insights into the ice age, fossils and the spread of mankind

I had to read your details twice to become clear, but I think I am. In my opinion, I don't hold science up high to religion or in other words it isn't comparing apples to apples.

Religion is something as defined by God.
Science is mankind's way of measuring the world.

Granted, there are a lot of cool things we like to do with science but when it comes down to the end of splicing down to electrons one question for me remains - where did THAT come from? It only makes me laugh happily and wonder at all God's creation.

Nice question.

Geologists, Geographers, Biologists...none of these professions contradict religion. Historians are much more likely to be Atheist than scientists.

I would suggest that science is only a method to accurately seek answers. I would also suggest that religion is a contradiction of itself. For instance, if Christians believe that Jews and Muslims think incorrectly about the Lord; Jews think that Christians and Muslims think incorrectly, and Muslims think that Jews and Christians think incorrectly about the lord... They why is it so inconceivable that Atheists think that Jews, Muslims and Christians are incorrect.
