If you are looking to lose 50 lbs. you will need to make a life style change over the long term. If you are only looking something quick you can try Atkins. You have to have a whole lot of discipline to have that diet work for you and have quick dramatic results. I lost about 20 lbs. in a month with that diet ( I went on it with my wife). It is not healthy, she had to stop the diet because of strange health issues that had to do with nutritional deficiencies. I think the best over the long term is to give up cola and other sweet drinks with lots of calories is the best and easiest thing to do. Then start drinking lots of water, try drinking a full 8 to 16oz of water before every meal and at least 8 cups a day. Then only eat about half of whats on your plate and only snack on healthy stuff like fruit and veggies and nuts. Start working out and stick with it and you'll lose the weight if you really want to.

I just lost 32 pounds - here is what I did. Smaller portions - no eating at night. That's it. If you go to a restaurant, eat only half. I had oatmeal for breakfast - i ate small portions every 2 1/2 hours. You will get used to it; it becomes a way of life. Don't look at it as a diet - just start eating this way and it will seem like second nature. Instead of 3 pieces of pizza - eat one. I ate Lean Cuisines for dinner. Eat 1/2 sandwich for lunch and some fruit.

Try the South Beach Diet. It's teaches how to know what foods are good for you and what aren't. It has three stages, with the strictest one being the first. The first stage only last two weeks and I didn't find it hard to follow at all. It not only helps you lose weight, it also causes your blood chemistry to become healthy. It helps you to avoid diabetes and heart disease. You can find a used copy on eBay for very little money. Good luck!

OMG I lost 54lbs...so I know EXACTLY where you are! I did it, and so can you!!! Check out my before and after pic here http://www.healthandstrength.net
Here is what I did to lose my weight:
1. NEVER EVER ate sugar. It's a poison that makes us older, sicker, fatter and tired...all things we dont want. Seriously, sugar is the one who does the dirty work in weight gain. Stop eating it all together. You can see my list of ingredients to avoid when shopping here http://www.healthandstrength.net/qofweeka.htm...
2. Drink ALOT of water. 2-3 liters a day. The more the merrier! We need about half our body weight in ounces JUST for regular body functions! When you feel thirsty, that means you are already dehydrated and lose brain function. Water flushes toxins from your fat cells and keeps you younger.
3. Exercise!!! So very important. Here http://www.healthandstrength.net/abexe.htm... are my favorite ab exercises. I also do cardio 4-5 days a week for about 30 minutes a time.
4. Eat less. How many calories do you think is in that burger or that plate of fries or in that handful of chips. What about overfilling our plates? If you go here http://www.healthandstrength.net/qofweek.htm... I wrote something about saving on calories and losing weight.
5. Go to sleep before 10pm. Your body starts repairing and rebuilding and speeding up weight loss while you sleep only if you sleep at about 10pm. If you are awake and go to bed at 12, you miss out on that very important time. I have a good article on my site here http://www.healthandstrength.net/qofweekb.htm that talks about the importance of sleep and how STRESS can make actually make you fatter.
6. BE POSITIVE. Be thankful every day and love yourself
7. BE CONSISTANT! That I think is the KEY to losing weight. So what if you went a week and only lost a pound...or didnt lose any...KEEP going. DON'T stop. This is a lifelong commitment, so stick to it and one day you will open your eyes and need a new wardrobe!
8. Eat more veggies and skinny friendly foods. I have my list of my top ten foods that I ate to lost weight here http://www.healthandstrength.net/tenfoods.htm...
80% veggies at every meal including breakfast will keep you young and help you lose weight.
9. Do the little things that count! Check out 10 cool ideas that you can do to help boost your calorie burn throught the day here: http://www.healthandstrength.net/tips.htm
Good luck and don't forget that YOU are the only one who decides what foods enter your body and how long you sit around. Make the change, take the chance and give yourself time! You can do it. I know you can!

Jean, a very loud, unattractive, mean-acting woman
walks into Wal-Mart with her two kids in tow,
screaming obscenities at them all the way through the
entrance.
The Wal-Mart Greeter says, "Good morning and welcome
to Wal-Mart. Nice children you've got there - are they
twins?"
The ugly woman stops screaming long enough to say,
"Hell no they ain't, the oldest one, he's 9 and the
younger one, she's 7. Why the hell would you think
they're twins? Do you really think they look alike?"
"No", replies the greeter, "I just couldn't believe
you got laid twice!"
