Just think of something nice (like a flowing stream or a good-looking guy) and relax completely when you're getting the shot. If you don't tense up, you won't feel a thing. If you're all tense and flex your muscles, you'll only make it worse.

I'm with you, I hate needles!
But, sometimes you just have to grin and bear it. For me, I try to relax and don't look. I think of something more pleasant and plus it helps to know that what they're about to do is for my well-being.
Usually, you find the actually injection hurts less than the anticipation. Also, I've noticed that if I go for injections in the early morning (I'm not a morning person) my brain & body are still a bit sleepy and I feel that sometimes helps numb the pain a bit.
Good luck and I hope the injection won't be as bad as you think!

I got a tetanus shot a couple months ago, I didn't think the shot hurt so much but it was sore to the touch for a couple days. Oops, I guess that doesn't really ease your mind at all but don't worry, you can play the injured soul up a little and get some sympathy from your friends :)

OK,I am a nurse and am terrified of needles.Imagine me giving you that shot,I always felt so sorry for my patients.Seriously though, there is a topical cream that the doctor can prescribe for you to use on your arm before you get the shot.It numbs the area.My best friends little girl completely freaked out every time she had to get a shot and the doctor prescribed this for her,it really did help.I completely understand how you feel,if I know I have to have a blood test,I worry about it for days.It was so much easier on me when the doc just did it in her office, didn't give me a chance to think about it.Ask your doctor about that cream,it is a prescription that you will have to get filled.Good Luck.

I think that everyone is afraid of getting shots, but this all in you head, your letting your fear get the best of you. STOP!!! Yes I am afraid of shots and try to avoid them as much as possible, but on that rare occasion, I meditate, and I take a xanes, someting that reduces stress. Your friend I bet is afraid of needles as well, so you are not alone in your feelings of fear. As for after, just massage the spot, believe me it is NOT that bad, your mind is creating all this crazy worrying. You tell your mind do not let your mind create a world of fear for you. Bottom line is it is painless...

ok, i am ABSOLUTELY terrified of needles in every shape and form. the best solution i've found so far is a couple of methods in one. drink little to no caffine on the day of the shot. it lowers the terrified jitters and won't have your mind wandering onto the needle subject as much. if it's a HUGE fear ask your doctor to prescibe you a mild anxiety pill or tranquilizer to keep you calm and to shorten ANY pain involved. i find that the worst part of the whole situation is the worrying itself. see if any of those methods help

I GIVE BLOOD EVERY 56 DAYS, FOR RED CROSS, AND I GOT MY FLU SHOT ALREADY, SO NO I'M NOT AFRAID OF NEEDLES, WHEN YOU GET A SHOT, TAKES IN SOME DEEP BREATHS, AND DON'T LOOK AT THE NEEDLE, IT WILL HELP YOU OUT, AND THINK OF SOMETHING NICE TO GET YOUR MIND OFF FROM THE SHOT. I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU. EVERYTHING WILL BE ALRIGHT.

Okay - I hate needles too. This is what I do - I don't look at the needle at all. I just close my eyes. It will sting a bit (nothing can help that) but it lasts for only a second, after that you will be fine.

Focus on leaving your arm completely loose; if you tighten up your muscle it will be harder for them to give you the shot and it will hurt more. Before they start the shot, take a deep breath and blow it out slowly as you are getting the shot. Concentrate only on blowing out your breath and it will be over before you know it. Good luck!

If this shot is in the rear you can put your weight on your opposite side and try and relax and don't look.
