Sounds normal, but if you are not sure check with your vet - all kittens should be checked by a vet for worms, etc

Why do cats meow?

Cats have 4 different meanings for "meow". If you listen carefully, you can hear that each meow is different.

* I'm hungry!
* I want to go out!
* Help!
* I want attention!

Than he probably is. Call a vet and ask them. Your kitten may be hurt on the inside, broken bone, sore, or the might just been playing and bumped into somethin causing a sore spot.

Could be something internal. If you think he sounds like he's in pain, it's likely that he is. Have him checked out by a vet.

He might be in pain and then if he is laying down or something then he could be comfortable and he might not want to be picked up.
or he just might not want to be picked up even if he is not laying down.
