Orange means that it is carrying eggs, during its mating season, the black indicates it was feeding before caught as it is the intestinal tract, neither one is dangerous or poses an issue, it is just more pleasing to clean them out and not have to deal with the grit.

I don't believe I have ever seen an orange vein, but since the vein is the shrimps digestive tract I would have to assume that its color is related to its diet.

it isn't a vein. It's a digestive tract. And the color is dependent on what the shrimp ate and is in the process of crapping out when it is killed.

I don't mean to gross you out, but the ones with orange veins mean they pooped right before being caught. Black/green veins mean they still had to take a poop. It's generally harmless, but gritty.

u mean when u de-vein them?
the black stuff is poop, undeveined shrimp are just de-tailed and put in a bag, that's why u need to clean them.

that is not a "vein" but actually part of their circulatory system.As far as the color, it has to do with the region they are from and the species of shrimp they are and probably what they consume.
