quite what?
you mean quiet?
that is funny, there is no way...
babies make noises, even when they sleep, the first 3 months are particularly noisy, they cry for no reason (aparent) whatsoever...
and then they become toddlers and the fun starts...

First of all you need to find out why the baby is crying? Is he/she ... hungary, wet, stinky, gassy, overlytired, teething, etc.? If you nurse, you may be eating something that is giving the baby gas, so you may need to changing your eating. I've heard it said once that every child will sleep well as long as they are 1- Fed 2- Warm 3- Feel Safe and most important 4- Feel LOVED. Try rocking and maybe playing some softer sounding music. But most importantly STAY CALM!!! Babies can sense so much and if you are getting angry, stressed or irritable about a noisy baby, the baby will know that and feed off of the stress.

Tend to his/her needs.

I do this:

Check the diaper...if that is good

Feed the child...if he/she is fed

Check for fever...rash...clothing too tight...look at the babys toes and make sure a hair isn't wrapped around one...( it happens and babies lose toes)...get the child naked and redress as to insure comfort

Rock the baby

Put him/her face down on your knees and pat the bum

Try a swing...they are great for unconsolable babies

If it gets to be too much take a break....put the baby down someplace safe and walk away. Put him/her in the crib and shut the door. Let the baby cry for 5 or 10 minutes. It won't hurt them...then when you are calmer go back and try again. Sometimes they just need a good cry and will fall asleep on their own after a few minutes.

Make sure your baby doesn't have gas too....if he/she is stiffining out his/her body adn wailing massage the tummy gently to encourage trapped gas downward. Push babys knees up gently toward the tummy...sometimes that releases gas too....

Don't give up....all parents go through it. If you could withstand childbirth...you can do this!

* If a baby cries for too long with out stopping call a doctor as there might be something wrong with him/her that you might not realize

Good Luck and God Bless!!!

You can't keep a baby quiet. If there is something they need they will cry until it is taken care of because that is there form of communication. Check their diaper....are they hungry? do they have gas? are they tired? If the baby hasn't had anything to eat recently, offer food. If they just recently had food give them some gas medicine. Have they slept recently? If not bounce them or rock them and see if they go to sleep. It's hard to know what a baby wants because they can't say it but you just have to go through and try everything until you find something that settles them down. I have a two year old and a six month old, so I know very well. Goodluck!!

You really can't. However, try to figure out why the baby is crying. If you have no freaking idea go though this process.

1. Change the baby's diaper.
2. Offer the baby a bottle
3. Check the baby's clothes are they too tight, is there a tag rubbing on them etc.
4. Rock the baby and hold it.
5. (depending on age) try to destract the baby, my daughter loved a stroller ride.
6. (depending on the child) Go for a car ride.

Most importantly, if you think you are going to lose it, take a breather. Baby's can tell when you are at your wits end and it stresses them out. It won't hurt your baby to cry for a minute if you just need to walk away. It is better to do this to possibly take your frustration out on a child.

it will be OK, I promise... baby's cry for so many reason, the trick is finding out what the source of the crying is. it takes patients and practice!

Do take the good advice already given to find out what the baby needs and take care of the need. Also, know that after I had been caring for my daughter for a while, I got to where I could tell what she needed by the tones of her cry. So, there's a lot to look foreward to when making that unselfish decision to care for someone who can't care for themselves.

The best way I find to keep a baby quiet is to talk to them. Asking questions, spouting useless babble. Even if your walking aroud them, doing dishes trying to watch t.v. It doesn't matter. Just talk to them. You may also notice your baby going out of its way to watch you while they listen. It also becomes easir for you to talk to them. In the long run, your child will have no problem talking to you. If your trying to keep a baby quiet before they sleep. You could Play books on tape. So there talked to sleep. Both my younger cousins started talking in sentences before they were One. Hope this helps.

make sure your not anxious around baby, she/he will sense this and find it unsettling. The happier you are the happy baby will be. And give yourself a break, you need your time also so dont be afraid to ask loved ones to watch babes for an hour. Enjoy.
