Shut it down and turn it on again. The word "boot" was invented by computer programmers from the idea of "pulling yourself up by your bootstraps." During the boot process, the computer's processor has just enough information in ROM (read-only memory) to understand what it's going to read next to be able to read all the code for your Windows operating system into RAM (random access memory). When you shut your computer down, it zeros out its memory (RAM), so you start clean.
