Snickers is the international name, it was called marathon here in the Uk but was changed in the early eigthies.

Because the UK, as in so many things, had a different name for the same thing that was being sold in the rest of the world, Snickers = Marathon, Jif = Cif. Oil of Ulay,= Oil of Olay. it was changed to fit in with how it was sold the rest of the world, made it easier for adverts as well.

To save money, in the rest of the EU it was called snickers, in the UK it was marathon, it was standardised to reduce packaging costs.
