I think there are 2 sides to every coin. He gave us the 7 beattitudes to show us how we should live, but he also gave us the 7 woes to show us how we shouldn't live. To be a complete person one must understand both sides of the coin. I can say I follow all the beattitudes and still be the worst person on the Earth and claim to be a very religious person. You have to ask yourself if you not only follow the Beattitudes but if you don't fall under the woes, because the price is death or hell.
1)Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.
2)Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.
3)Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor!
Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?
And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty.
Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift
Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.
And whoso shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.
And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.
4)Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.
5)Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.
Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.
6)Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchers, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.
Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
7)Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchers of the righteous,
And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.
Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.
Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.
Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

Don't be so sure. When Jesus said: "blessed are those who know they are spiritually poor", how can these ones become spiritually enriched? Only by reading and applying the Bible, not any other religious book. How many other religions in the world have the Bible as their main textbook?

I don't understand how they "may apply to anyone of any belief or faith" unless you distort the meaning of what Jesus said, especially terms like "God"-- to suggest he meant "God" in some sort of "inclusive of all religious beliefs" manner is intellectually dishonest at best.

wish I could live up to all of these in my daily life but sometimes I feed the wrong wolf. there is a Cherokee Legend each person has two wolves inside them one represents good -- the other evil and the one who wins the most is the one we feed the most.

Although they may apply to anyone of any belief, they are especially beautiful for the faithful in Christ.

religious people need to post this on their computers. I may not have such a low opinion of them if they truly believed everything their bible said and not just those things they can use to condemn everyone around them.

i think it is a promise to us if we do what we are supposed to do. If you cling to what matters in life and don't get corrupted, it is very easy to have Jesus in your heart.GOD bless

I heard a quote once from some philosopher or another, which I believe answers this question quite nicely.
"I like your Christ, but I do not like your Christians. They are often so unlike your Christ."
I don't remember who said that...

And who told you Jesus said all that? Don't say the bible, that fictional book is only translations of translations of translations of things people heard and passed on to other people and got written in all different translations.
