I have twins in the family and they are going to be attending bar/bat mitzvahs for the next year. Should we give double? Or 1.5 of a presen? Giving double is a lot of money!

As the parent of twins I can say that I often feel bad for them because they always get half of what their "singleton" cousins get. Yes, it's one even for both of them but they are seperate people. If they were born one year apart then you would be going to a bar/bat mitvah this year and a bar/bat mitvah next year. What would you give at each event? It might feel like alot of money because it's all on the same day but if they were cousins born on the same day would you give less to the child in one family versus the other?

You can always give two smaller gifts....but if you give double money you can do so in denominations of $18.

18 symbolizes chai, which means to life, and that is the standard for a bar/bat/benae mitzvahs, as far as money for a gift.

People usually give, $18, or $36, or $54, etc. All in denominations of 18. So - you can really give $18 from each person (totalling $36), which isn't that much money.

Hope that helps.

After seeing this, it seems like some people got the question mixed up....but that's ok!!!
I almost did too!
But, I meant each twin can give a gift of $18,.....
Hope this all makes sense...

it may seem like a lot of money because it is at the same time , but both of the twins are separate people who worked very hard to do their bar/bat mitzvahs and deserve 100%. they should not be penalized for having a twin!!
its like when someone has a birthday near christmas and they only get one present!

You should probably give each twin a gift. Make them smaller gifts and remember you will not be the only one doing that, since most people cannot afford two lavish gifts.
