Dear taotemu,
During the church age (33 - 1988 A.D.) believers were to bring their firstfruits to the house of God. "Tithe" means 10%. The tithe was to be used to get the true Gospel out into the entire world, however, many "churches" used this money to buy beautiful baptistries or windows or all kinds of things that were not related to the Gospel. However we read in Hebrews 12... that we are to present ourselves as living sacrifices unto the Lord.. This means that the true believer gives himself completely to the Lord.
Now that the church age is ended, the true believers are to come out of the church (Matthew 24:15, 16; Revelation 18:4-). You see satan has taken his seat in the local congregations and is ruling there. There is absolutely NO POSSIBILITY of salvation in the local churhces today (2 Thessalonians 2). In Ezekiel 9 we again read of the judgment of God upon the local churches. I can give you more references but check out the ones I've listed.

Yes somewhere it does talk about tithing i am sorry to say that i do not know where exactly it is found. But i do know that we are suppose to give 10% of our earnings to God, but often i am put in the situation to where i don't have that 10% to give but i give all that i can which sometimes is more than 10% , and sometimes i have not a penny to give... I have always gotten what i have gave back. Like for instance one Sunday night i had nothing to give the only money that i had was a ten dollar Bill which i had planned on using for gas the following day, well i gave it anyways and the next morning when i went to get my clothes out of the dryer there was a 100 dollar bill laying there. I know how much i got payed and i know that i did not have 100 dollars extra that i was missing, so i think that was God returning my gas money with a little extra...

Matthew 23:23 uses the word but why not although its not new testament try Malachi 3:8-10, when the Lord died on The Cross, the temple vail was torn in two, that ended the old system that said to bring a lamb to sacrifice, but when Christ died that went away and the rules that governed that was wrote in A Book of The Law and it was done away with, but the old testament is still very valid and ALL scripture is inspired see 2 tim.3:16, free bible lessons www.itiswritten.com bible questions www.bibleinfo.com God bless, hay why not visit A Seventh Day Adventist on Sabbath [saturday, the seventh day not the first day is holy] in your area, God bless.

Yes. In fact, Jesus talked about how tithing was something you should do.
Matthew 23:23 and Luke 42:42 show an encounter between Jesus and a Pharisee. Jesus says: "Woe to you Pharisees, because you give God a tenth of your mint, rue and all other kinds of garden herbs, but you neglect justice and the love of God. You should have practiced the latter without leaving the former undone."
When Jesus says, "You should have practiced the latter," he is specifically referring to the fact they should not have neglected justice and the love of God." He then says they should not have "left the former undone". This was a direct reference to the tithing.
According to Jesus, we should tithe, be just, and love God.

I know many churches still talk of tithe as they did in the Old Test. I believe that the New Test. is an offering.
Jesus gave his whole life as an offering. Not ten percent, and God blessed the whole offering.
So many check the church time clock and the church payroll, and forget what the word says. Many quote that give Caesars what is Caesar's and give God what is God. The image on a coin, is the government, The image in us is God. We are made in His image. So we are meant to be his...
This is the verse that I think of when I think of offering.
Luke 6:38
A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."

Only that you should give God the best of what you have... the story of the widow and the little she gave, and how much it was appreciated is a good example. Even in the Hebrew scriptures, the tithe was intended to be the best you had, and it was to help take care of the temple priests. The amount is immaterial...it's the heart attitude and the fact that you give God your best of what ever you have!

The new testament speaks of Christians pooling their resources in order to care for the entire faith community.
Tithing has never been required under the new covenant.
Reasonable contributions of time, talent, and/or treasure, for the care and support of the church are required under the law of love, and under the official precepts of the Catholic Church.
That's about it.

Grace unto you, and peace,
from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
It's best not to feed the trolls, for they only use the troll tolls to promote more law: is not the solution, but rather the problem.
Our Father, deliver us from evil: Mt 6:13
We are delivered from the law: Rom 7:6
As understanding increases, troll tolls decrease:

With all thy getting, get understanding: Solomon(Prov 4)
The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ WITH YOU ALL. AMEN.
