How can you increase the force a hydraulic device produces without increasing the size of the force you apply to the small piston?

Use a handle and apply the simple machine principle, to multiply the force.

The previous answers can be correct, but you may be able to change the viscosity of the oil (fluid) of the hydraulics.
Sorry if this is is wrong, but I always "think" out of the box.

To increase hydraulic gain, you can either make the output cylinder bigger, or make the input cylinder smaller.
