Compare with another parable, the parable of the sower (Matthew 13:3-9). Each seed represents a called person; that is, each person who hears the word of God and Gospel expounded to them, is called. But only those who actually bear fruit are chosen.
Another comparison, the parable of the wedding supper (Matthew 22:1-14 -- from whence your quote comes):
Many people were given invitations and 'called' to the feast, but the refused, considering it unimportant. It is those who actually went to the banquet in an appropriate manner who are chosen.
If someone preaches the true Gospel in your hearing, you are called. If you believe it and follow it, and endure to the end (Mt 24:13), you are chosen. Not everyone is called at this time (1 Corinthians 15:22-24).
Hearing the true Gospel, is not the same as reading the Bible (consider the eunuch who did not understand the Bible until Philip expounded it to him), or having some preacher preach to you. For there are many false gospels, false preachers, false christians and false messiahs in the world.

This scripture goes along with the parable of the sower AND it also goes along with what Matthew 7 says about the narrow path. Many "hear" the word of God and are called- but they refuse to accept the truth- and then many are chosen- who do accept the truth.
Matthew 7:13-14
13"Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy[a] that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. 14For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.
When it says "called" that means they are being preached the gospel- people are hearing the word of God but many are not receiving it. Those who do receive it are the ones who were chosen to receive it. This has NOTHING to do with the 144,000 that the Jehovah's witnesses claim. Read Revelation about that.
John 6:44 says "No one can come to Me, unless the Father draws him, and I will raise him up on the last day"
Also read the parable of the sower in Luke 8.

John 14:28 "YOU heard that I suggested to YOU, i leave and that i'm coming [returned] to YOU. in case you enjoyed me, you will possibly rejoice that i am going my thank you to the daddy, because of the fact the daddy is bigger than i'm." Jesus says it himself that the daddy is bigger than he's. Rev.3:14 "And to the angel of the congregation in l. a.·o·di·ce?a write: those are the flaws that the Amen says, the truthful and genuine witness, the initiating of the advent via God." This truthful and genuine witness is Jesus Christ. God made him first in the previous the the remainder of advent and as Jesus has a initiating and God does no longer, they won't be one and the comparable. Col a million:15-17 he's such as the invisible God, the firstborn of all advent; sixteen because of the fact via potential of him all [different] issues have been created interior the heavens and upon the earth, the flaws seen and the flaws invisible, no count notwithstanding if or no longer they're thrones or lordships or governments or government. All [different] issues have been created by him and for him. 17 additionally, he's in the previous all [different] issues and via potential of him all [different] issues have been made to exist, right here returned, the 1st born of all advent. Jesus replaced into the 1st of advent, no longer = to his Father. Matt 24:36 appropriate to that day and hour no one is familiar with, neither the angels of the heavens nor the Son, yet basically the daddy. it somewhat is appropriate to the time while Jehovah will come and do away with the wickedness on earth. be conscious that Jesus suggested that he did no longer comprehend that element, basically the daddy is familiar with. So if Jesus is God why does no longer he have undemanding. To me it somewhat is the best element to tutor the trinity isn't ideal.

From the context, I believe Jesus is talking about the Jews. The Jews are the original guests of the wedding banquet who made excuses and did not attend. So the host sent the servants to welcome the "good and the bad" from off the street, who represent the Gentiles. Now, the man who got thrown out because he was not wearing a wedding garment was disrespectful to the host. In that culture, the host provided the garments for his guests, so it's not that the man did not have a garment, but that he refused it. That is why he is cast out. So, not only do we receive the invitation and reap the benefits of "the feast" but we should also honor and obey the host who invited us, lest we be cast out.

My understanding of that verse would be that many hear the gospel, but only a few really listen to it and follow it. "Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:" Matthew 7:13. - not many enter into heaven, because it is a difficult path.
It is a question of election - I believe that God chooses whom he is going to save.
Romans 11:5-7
1 Peter 1:2 "Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied."

First - thanks for asking a good question!
Called - Everyone is called
There are few who have Chosen to accept Christ as the Savior and Son of God and inherit eternal salvation.
You do not need more scripture to prove what has been said.

This has nothing to do with faith, you see over the years this passage has been misinterpreted, Matthew was really recruiting for the U.S. Marine Corp.
