My BF's urine has a foul smell to it, I'm very concerned about his health but he refuses to go to the doctor, he's a drinker, he drinks everyday, usually 6-7 beers at the least. I tell him he's an alcoholic but he disagrees, he thinks alcoholics are people who can not function at all, he's up for work everyday at 6:30am and functions fine, but he's drinking is not normal, he refuses to listen! (Comes from a big irish family of drinkers) I'm concerned about his liver, his urine smells really bad, it started lately. Its always cloudy too, there could be other symptoms but hes too stuborn to even let me or anyone know. What can I do, I love this man, I've been with him 5 years, I have talked to him repeatedly to no avail. What can be the cause of this smell? He's 29yrs old and had an uncle who died from liver cancer. Any advice would be appreciated. LOL

First of all you have to realize that alcoholism is a disease that affects all those close to the person suffering from this devastating disease. You should try and find the phone number of alanon in your area and call to get some advice for yourself. Secondly his urine could be cloudy due to many different factors. It could be as simple of dehydration due to the alcohol and not drinking enough water. There could also be a urinary tract infection. You cannot force a person to get help against his will but you can get help so that you find some acceptance and peace for yourself. If his liver is enlarged or his colour is becoming yellowish then he is probably suffering from jaundice his urine will be a bright orange as well. Good luck and take care of yourself as this must be terribly difficult for you to be going through. Remember that none of this is your fault.

Well, Water is the best way to help that. Smells can come from many diffrent places. If it's cloudy then his body is not healthy. let him know that alcoholics run into trouble later on in life such as high blood preasure and can cause lack of sleep and in the long run can lead to death. If he cuts back on the beers he can and may live a great healthy life. bu he has to be willing to take controll and stop drinking. not just a little eather, he realy need to get off the beers for a while then only drink little bits at a time not every day eather.

A friends son just passed away at 37, he walked around with two beers opened all the time. He wasn't an alcoholic either, he said.

I'd guess from what you said he's at least got an infection. Cloudy urine and smelly is a good indication of infection. He's most certainly a candidate for treatment. If you do marry him get a big insurance policy, you'll be rich soon. Don't have any kids as yet, they'll be fatherless. Good luck in the Bahamas

You are a codependent (look up the definition if you are confused about the term). You have been with him for 5 years, and continue to try at no avail. He could have a serious kidney or liver problem. There is no way to know unless he goes to a doctor. If he does not want to go, then you have to go...out of his life.

it does sound like uninary track infection..they sell cranberry pill at the store thats good 4 that.. as far as the beer goes, i have a ex sister in law that has had cancer about 20 years or more and she drinks beer everyday.. she had over 40 major operations too. she made a believe out of us, that beer is what is keeping her up and running.. strange i know, but it's true.. she takes no pills.. but anyways try the cranberry pill on him.. surely can't hurt.. and if they work, it will save you a lot of worry and grief : )

Actually, these could be signs of many different things but ultimately only a doctor will be able to diagnose the problem.
