For one thing, don't spend too much time on the computer!

You can do an exercise to try to open up the carpal tunnel, but it's hard for me to describe. Make a fist and put your knuckles under the edge of a heavy table. Try to lift the table (which you can't) by simply flexing your wrist upwards; not by raising your arm. This will hurt as you do it, but it opens up the sheath that the tendons run through, giving them more room.

Advil and Aleve are good......

Hi Whiskeydo,
I just had the operation 2 weeks ago and it was a breeze. I am typing on the computer and there is no pain or numbness.( It hasn't helped my speed any ). Before the operation I slept with a brace on my wrist it helped some and I got used to sleeping with it fairly quickly. I'm not back to work yet but the way it is healing it won't be too long. The only problem would be if you weren't covered by insurance. I get paid while I'm off so it was an easy choice for me. Hope you get it fixed soon.I'm glad I did.

Surgery does not make it worse. Unless you have let it go too long. I had both hands operated on almost a year ago and I'm back 100 percent. Making sure you sleep with your wrists straight helps. Surgery is the best bet. I fought with it for about 5 years before I had anything done. Tried all the braces and chiropractic treatments before I wised up.

This is a really tough one. I had the surgery, since it seemed nothing would help. Go visit a hand specialist, they may have more updated things then what I had over 7 years ago. I wore a hand brace at night to keep my hands a certain way, but it only helped temporarily. Good luck!!

My wife has had carpal for years. Her doctor prescribed braces. The braces are a heavy material that wraps around the wrist and hand. They have a metal plate shaped to the hand embedded in the palm side. It's held in place with Velcro bands.
The idea of the brace is to keep the hand and lower arm lined up straight. She wears the braces only when in bed. The carpal doesn't bother her at all any more.

Have the surgery, it's true, some might not be helped, but for the majority all the people I know ( and it seems to be also a computer illness too) have had no problems and asked themselves why they waited so long.

See your doctor and make sure of what you are dealing with then find out what your options are. Wearing wrist supports at night helped me. I was a machine builder for 30 years. I am now slowly loosing my hands to Arthritis.
