If you really want to do to it, you can do it. I went to an University that is 4 and half hours away from my house, and I didn't know anybody when I got to my University. I had the hardest first week of my life, in fact I even went home. But when I got back some of the people I have talked to were like we missed you this weekend, and I realized that if I make some friends and talk to my mom every night, I will get through it. And I did! I'm now a sophomore at my University and love everything about it! I believe that if you find a group of people you can talk to and keep a close relationship with your family you can do it. You just have to look deep down inside yourself and ask if you are up to the challenge! I think it is something you should at least try. Because you get a better sense of knowing what is right for you and you get to be more independent. Good Luck! And if you need some more advice or have questions about going away, feel free to e-mail me! -Marisa

if at all possible visit or at least call the financial aide office of your colleges of choice. Tell them you have no money and need help. I have found that most want you to be there and will come up with ways to help you. There are work-study programs where you get paid by the school for jobs such as library helper. There are scholarships, grants and loans. If you take nursing you may not have to pay back the loans!! I didn't have to as long as I was working full-time in nursing. Some hospitals will pay for college if you agree to work there as a nurse when you graduate!
Start out first with your HS guidance counselor. There are good ones, and not so good ones. Then move on to calling and visiting the colleges. GO for it!!!

Usually, you can't. Is there a reason why you can't stay at home while you're in college? If you can, then, do that - it will make your life sooo much easier. If you can't, then I would see about getting a dependable roommate to help you with expenses.

Good luck.
