I'm curious. When this movie came out, it drove christians crazy. They tried banning it and forcing their congregations to stay away. All the attention that church leaders gave it created such hysteria that it became one of the highest grossing movies that year. And, it was well made...
I thought it was kinda funny, though. If the christian cult is so strong, why would something like this threaten it? Low self-esteem?
It was pretty clear that the story is fiction, based on an even larger fiction (the bible). We know the bible was edited and compiled in 325-AD by a Pagan Roman Emperor named Constantine for political purposes -- basic history tells us that. Constantine's Council of Nicaea even authored parts of the bible, and threw out over 200 books of the bible... So, we know it's incomplete, false, and a work of fiction, compiled by a Pagan (of all things!) --
-- that's like buying a car built by a hairdresser!!
So, why get your panties in a big wad over it?

centurion. read my question. that's what I'm asking. it clearly did, given all the screeching and shrieking that all the churches did over it. not only that, but christians even here on Y! A were shrieking about it like little girls at recess getting their piggy-tails pulled.
that's what i am asking. don't be afraid to read and comprehend. honesty shoudn't scare you, either. be honest, read the question, and answer it.

Marvin -- I know what you mean. I still find it amusing to see how many people fall for the bible, with all the fiction it is based upon...nonetheless, at least over 70% of the people on earth are smart enough to reject the bible for the fiction that it is. there is hope yet for human-kind!

Everything in opposition of the Bible drives them crazy. It's already been established that it is fiction, and not even an original piece of work as it was stolen from other writers. But some people believe that it is really possible. That's their perogrative. I have not seen the movie so I can't comment on the contents.
But I agree you really do have to wonder when someone gets that upset over something. Perhaps it's not near as strong and firm as people would like you to believe if they get that threatened by a work of fiction.

Because The Davinci Code didn't reflect what the Bible tells. The Movie is based on something that was written just a few hundred years ago after the Bible was already written. So to have a movie that is about "The Church and the Bible" but that isn't really from the Bible....that doesn't even make sense why someone would do that.

Amazingly, I found the movie less annoying than the book. Some of the more glaringly inaccurate points were toned down/removed, and the main character (though Hanks probably wasn't the best choice) was far more likable in the movie.
Overall, the movie didn't posit any particularly "new" ideas - that speculation has been around for a while. Heresy, according to the Christians, but not a particularly new one.
IMO, the best part of the movie was when they got to Rosslyn. *Very* beautiful scenery.

Hi - The book and the movie were both lightweight entertainment. like you, I feel sorry for the people who took it seriously, either for or against it.
The book was a good "airplane read" - the movie I am afraid was a bit of a bore, though anything with Ian McKellan has at least his performance as a redeeming quality.
One woman I was introduced to told me it was the most "meaningful" and "thought provoking" book she had ever read. You could have knocked me over with a feather!
Thanks for your comment. In answer to your question, I don't see any reason to get anyone's panties in a knot over the book or the film.

find it amusing as to how many fall for the DA Vinci Code as it is loaded with fiction. D.Brown must have made a fortune and if I was him I'd never even think about writing another book. after all what could he do for an encore to top this one ?

Of course the book is fiction. He admits that. Banning any movie on the basis of it offending a faith is a tough thing to pull off...there would be few movies. And, what is wrong with my pink car, decorated with curlers and waxed with pom-aide?

Not the Christians I know. WE know the Da Vinci code to be a work of Fiction, meaning that the writer was using his own personal imagination. I have not read the book nor seen the movie. ... and do not plan to.... and do not remember the Author of it... Whatshisname:-) :-)

Why would it drive us crazy since it was widely publicized that it was fiction?
Your original question was: Look at the DaVinci Code ads. Does this movie still drive christians crazy?
I think I answered it pretty well. Ok, in plain everyday english, no, it doesn't drive us crazy!

At my movie theater they had stacks of books by Josh McDowell (cleverly disguised to NOT look like religious propoganda.)
I TOOK stacks of them too! :) :)
For "not being afraid" of the movie, they sure put up a nice fight.
