2 cups cooked chopped meat(beef or pork)
1 tablespoon finely chopped onion
2 cups gravy
salt and pepper
2 cups mashed potato, prepared with milk and seasonings as desired
salt and pepper
1/8 teaspoon paprika
1 tablespoon butter
PREPARATION:
Combine meat, gravy, and chopped onion; season with salt and pepper to taste. Line the bottom of a buttered baking dish with a layer of half of the seasoned mashed potatoes. Add meat mixture then cover with remaining mashed potatoes.
Or, meat and gravy can be put in the baking dish first then topped with all of the mashed potatoes. Dot mashed potato topping with butter, sprinkle with salt, pepper, and paprika, then bake for about 30 minutes at 400°, or until potato topping is browned and the Shepherd's pie is thoroughly heated.
This shepherd's pie recipe serves 4.

Authentic Shepherd's Pie
1 lb Beef / lamb / veal & pork *
5 oz Chopped onion
3 tbl Butter or oil
3 x Cloves garlic, peel, chop
1 1/4 cup Stock / gravy / meat jelly
1 tsp Flour or cornstarch
Tomato paste
1 tbl Worcester sauce, or
1 1/2 tsp Wine vinegar
Thyme, salt, pepper, Cayenne
2 lb Potatoes
1 cup Milk (about)
3 oz Butter
1 tbl Grated dry cheddar
1 tbl Grated parmesan
* Mixed. - Chop, process or mince the meat. Cook onion in the fat until soft. Add the meat and garlic, stirring well; then raise the heat so that the meat browns. Turn it over in large sections with a spatula, so that it browns all over. Pour off any surplus fat. Add some of the liquid and bubble gently for 5 minutes. Sprinkle on flour or cornstarch, stir again and add the remaining liquid. Let it bubble to a rich sauce, adding the various flavourings to taste. - Meanwhile scrub, boil and peel the potatoes. Set aside a couple and slice them thinly. Mash the rest with the milk and butter, seasoning to taste.
Put the meat into a shallow dish. Spread the mashed potato on top and, with the slices, make a ring around the edge. Scatter the cheese over, and brown under the broiler at a moderate heat, or at the top of a hot oven. Once the dish looks an appetising golden colour, it can wait a while in a low oven without coming to any harm.

Here's the recipe my dad always used.
1 lb ground beef, browned
1 can creamed corn
2 cups mashed potatoes (either homemade or instant, prepared according to package instructions)
Pour creamed corn into the bottom of a glass loaf pan. Place ground beef on top. Spread mashed potatoes on top. Use a fork to make a ridged texture in the potato layer.
Bake at 350 until top of potatoes are slightly browned.
I usually season the beef a bit with some worcestershire sauce or by browning some onions along with the meat, and add some salt & pepper to taste.

Okay, you take a German Shepard and some pies (any kind) throw them at the dog and you have.........yep, Shepard Pie. Or you could just fry up some meat, put on bottom of glass dish, then pile on some mashed potatoes, then corn or even cheese. Basically whatever ya want and then throw it in the oven. Just to heat together. It's all cooked already. Yummy!
