my dad and his brother (my uncle) barely talk any more.. b/c of an incident that happened 8 years ago or so. they ended up punching it out in our backyard after a thanksgiving dinner. it lasted what seemed like a while, no one knew what to do or wanted to get physically involved..yelling at them didn't help either.. so we(children & relatives) just watched it happen. my mom and aunt were terrified.. luckily they just ended up with black eyes and bruised up faces, no broken bones thank god...but from what i know my dad and his brother have been feuding ever since they were kids, 1 physical fight a decade i've learned until this one... is it normal now that there in their 40's and 50's to be duking it out.

No it's not normal at all. It's also a very bad example for the children of the family. The scene you described must have been horrible to witness. The memory of that must still have unpleasant feelings attached to Thanksgiving for the entire family.
It wouldn't surprise me if your Dad & his brother don't even remember why they had that fatefull fight.
I wish I could encourage you to tell your Dad that he owes it to the entire family to step up & make ammends with his brother, & to vow never to get physical with any one in the family again.
But that situation is so broken, that I am not sure just what the right answer should be.
But no middle aged men should not fist fight, especially brothers.

If they were duking it out in my back yard, I would turn the hose on them and keep watering them down in their faces even to get them to stop. That is a crock and totally unacceptable. What is that teaching the little kids after Thanksgiving dinner. Come on no one wanted to intervene! And I don't know who told you that it was normal but that is BS. If they can not be together without physical violence then they seriously need to not see one another for a very long time. Don't you just love how some family's put the, "fun" in dys-fun-ctional!

Hopefully by this age you've worked things out, but sometimes people don't learn any better about relating. The best thing to do is stay out of the way. I recommend that the next time it happens, your mom and aunt have the two of them arrested and put in jail for distrubing the peace. Maybe that will drive home the point.

Always something can happened. Be a boxer - why not. I never fight like that with my brother but I remember some drunks brothers.
I don't promote the behavior but the one fight solve the problem for a long time. Just life - no comments.

I don't think it's "normal" for adults to be duking it out at any age.One would think they would be tired of friction by that age.Usually, notice I say usually, people have matured out of that type of behavior by that age.

Why not? Fighting is a healthy way to take out anger, but it is not good that they are no longer speaking.

Keep in mind that hockey players in their 40's fight all the time ;)!

no, tell them to grow up and set some good examples by talking it out, if not maybe some one needs to be the mediator. hopefully this wasn't done infront of minors:(

They're acting like 10 yr olds. They should be treated as such then.

No. by no skill. yet you're one extremely strong author. you're very discriptive, and that i might want to photo what the scene might want to look like. and how you wrote the accents were magnificent! i might want to really examine that e book. shop writing!
