Almost any breed can be trained to sniff out drugs.
Blood hounds used to be used for sniffing out criminal and lost kids,,
Most cops use German Shepards these days becuase
they can be more vicious when the cop tells them to attack someone.

Any breed of dog can be trained to detect drugs and find criminals.
But the 2 most popular breeds for that kind of stuff are Labrador Retrievers & German Shepherds.

My father was a police detective for many years, and he was given a Belgian Malinois dog for use on the police force. The dog was very friendly, (he also lived with us) His name was Sam. He was an awesome drug dog, he had a very good nose. Once I witnessed Sam chasing one guy up a tree after he smelled drugs on him! He recently passed away and my father was devestated. He lived fifteen years. He was a great dog.

I've seen beagles used for drug sniffing at airports and borders. German shepards are common for police work.

Of course German Shephards are the most famous but i was surprised to see that no one mentioned Pit Bulls. I have read many cases of pittys being used to find drugs

Generally, German Shepards are used. I'm part of a search and rescue team and we use all sorts of dogs..we have more Rotty's than anything but we use Shepards, and Retriever's too. I have a Retriever.

I've seen all different kinds of dogs used for different things. Sheperds, malinois, beagles, labs, bloodhounds, mutts. I think I've read some department was using a chihuha (sp) for something or other. Some dogs are better for different situations.

German Shepards and Bloodhounds, or most good hunting dogs would be good. Although the smaller scent hounds may not be as threatening.
