Barring any physical problems such as mites, fleas, or a fungus infection (there are other such physical problems) your cat may simply be vying for your affection. Is your cat pulling out dead hair or hair with tufts of skin, leaving scabby tissue? If she is a longhair cat she may simply be shedding (they do that year-round, but more in the spring). If there are no physical problems I would take her to the vet and explain what she is doing. The vet will find the answer. If she is mature and lonely (a single pet) and the loneliness is the problem you might see about getting her (I'm not kidding) a kitty of her own--she may treat the new cat as a pet of her own. I've heard of this being the answer to a lot of psychological needs of cats (and dogs). Good luck, and don't give up.

There are many reasons why she could be doing this. Skin allergies, dermatitis, parasites, a fungal infection....some cats simply become neurotic and start doing this. A friend of mine had a siamese that did it. The vet couldn't find any medical reason for it, so he put the cat on valium.
A trip to the vet is in order.
Good luck!

Several reasons.
She could be stressed out about something. Has there been any disruptions in her life (moving, new furniture, new cat, new roomate, ect).
Does she have fleas? Fleas can cause severe itching and sometimes even an allergic reaction that can cause discomfort and hair loss.
Have you started using any new "chemicals" in your home such as air-freshener, carpet shampoo, or even a new litter? She could be having an allergic reaction.
Does she ever go outside? Also a chance to encounter something that could cause an algerie.
There are also skin conditions and diseases that she could have developed.
Whatever you may THINK could be causing it, please take her to the vet ASAP!
