Saddam Hussein was dictator of Iraq from 1979 until 2003, when his regime was overthrown by a United States-led invasion. Hussein had joined the revolutionary Baath party while he was a university student. He launched his political career in 1958 by assassinating a supporter of Iraqi ruler Abdul-Karim Qassim. Saddam rose in the ranks after a Baath coup, and by 1979 he was Iraq's president and de facto dictator. He led Iraq through a decade-long war with Iran, and in August of 1990 his forces invaded the neighboring country of Kuwait. A U.S.-led alliance organized by George Bush (the elder) ran Hussein's forces out of Kuwait in the Gulf War, which ended in February of 1991 with Saddam still in power. In 2002 Hussein came under renewed pressure from George W. Bush, the son of the first President Bush. In March of 2003, Hussein's regime was overthrown by an invasion of U.S. and British forces.

WHEN YOU ARE KING OF ANY COUNTRY YOU DO RIGHT AND WRONG THINGS UNDER ADVISE OF YOUR OFFICERS OR MINISTERS. TO GIVE ONLY BLAMES TO THE KING IS NOT RIGHT. AS PER MY OPINION NO EX KING OF ANY COUNTRY SHOULD BE HANGED THOUGH HE IS RIGHT OR WRONG.

At First,I Want To Clear One Thing That I'm Not A Saddam Fan.But As An Onlooker I Must Say That A Leader Like Him Does Not Deserve The Treatments Like That.Besides,If Saddam Hussain Gets A Death Sentence For His Past Crimes,Mr. G.W. Bush Deserves The Same Fate Also For Slaughtering Millions Of Innocent Lives In The Name Of 'War Against Terrorism'.It Is Quite Clear That America Is Pressurizing The Verdict To Go Against Saddam. Why And How Can They Do That?It Is A Desicion Which Should Be Completely Taken By The Iraqi Laws.I Think Its Just Another Example Of Nasty Exhibition Of Greedy Diplomacy. All America Wants Is To Occupy The Huge Oil-Storages Of Iraq.We Must Not Forget That Today Iraq Holds A Position In The World Map Because Of Saddam Hussain. He Made All Those Development Possible. Not Many Of Us Can Hold Up A Nation Full Of Treacherous,Power-Hungry Kurd Rebels,Racist Parties And Communities For A Long Time.I Think Instead Of Saddam Those Power-Hungry,Greedy Lunatics Like Tony Blair & George W. Bush Should Be Annihilated From The Planet Earth.

Mr. Saddam Hussain tried to build his party first and then his country in his own way. He was a dictator and he behaved like most dictators. But was he a worst dictator than Stalin or Mao whom the then Govts of USA befriended? At one time, even Mr. Chamberlein, the PM of Great Britain, befriended Hitler. This is all history. And how history has treated Hitler, Stalin or Mao is also known to people. More and more truths and facts about such people are made known to people, it is hoped , the era of dictators and tyrants will come to end. But does this appear to be happening? It is US which initially helped Saddam. And it is US which has been supporting most dictators in Asia. Even now it supports Pakistan. So, how does it matter how was Sadam Hussain?

He has now been sentenced to Death by hanging for the killings of Shiites in 1982. his half brother and the leader of the Revolutionary Court have also recieved this penalty. One of his top commanders has recieved life in prison, three other recieved 15 years in prison, and one was set free due to lack of evidence to accociate him with the crimes. According to their laws, immediate appeals go to the death sentences and the life inprisonment. Should the appeals fail and the sentences stand the sentences must be carried out within 30 days.
The day the hanging takes place, I'm throwing a party.

This verdict has taken much too long, hopefully it is carried out expeditiously so that the living survivors of his many victims can finally have closure.
I'm confused over or whether you disagree with the verdict? If you are making a case for leniency, you sure won't get any support here!

Saddam is no better than Americans on the whole.
If Japanese have to revenge Americans for Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombing, just imagine the fate of Americans.
Saddam was created and made bigger than life, by the Americans for their selfish act and later they have to pay the price for doing so.
Its Americans who need to be punished first than the Iraqis (saddam).
